• I was thinking about buying axis&allies but I can’t decide which one to buy, axis&allies or axis&allies: europe. Could you please give me an opinion and tell me the difference between these 2 games.

  • A&AE covers…well not surprising, Europe.
It has a bit of Africa.
Its only 4 players however I think it is more balance than A&A
but if you havn’t play A&A try it.

  • i would pick A&A. It’s way more diverse as it covers all theatres of war and also all different kinds of combat: land, air and sea. Europe is basically limited to germany’s attack on russia, cause to me the battle in the atlantic is rather dull to play and uk and usa have a minor role. Its also based on battles with tanks, artillery and infantry and not so much sea and air warfare. Also the rules for europe are somewhat difficult to understand without knowledge of the original a&a rules.

i have to disagree with you GS. I’ve only played A&AE a couple of times (as Ghoul can attest), however i’ve found that the navy battles have a much more prominant role. The addition of the destroyers is wonderful IMO, and the subs also have a more important role. It is possible to a greater degree for Germany to stave off attack (or at least to keep HMN smaller) for longer. Also the use of air has increased IMO as well. With the addition of ftrs to guide bombers in (and vice-versa - to protect against bmb’s) is an excellent touch. Certainly fewer aircraft may be purchased, but all in all that’s a manner of preference it seems. Finally if you learn A&AE it will be easy to understand A&A.
At the same time, the game is a little superficial with no worries by Russia or England of occurrances to the east (or America to the west), however i found AAE quite playable, and more even - the few times i’ve played it.

  • the navy battles your talking about allways follow the same patters. Germany uses its subs first turn to steal some ipc’s from england and us. On turn 2 and 3 these are recaptured, subs are destroyed, network of trannies sends troops to europe. Germany can’t do anything else then concentrating on russia. Which imo leads to only main attacks on land towards russia, the only thing happening in the west is british and american troops invading europe once in a while with a small number of forces.

However i must say europe has more units and more accurate ones (seperate units for each nation) and it has a nice map. But i hardly play the game itself anymore. But i use the map to play scenario’s on, its well suited for that.

  • Hey crypt, if you and Ghoul are ever heading east to Ontario, call me up and you can stop by for an A&A/AAE/AAP game. :)

Sounds great. Etobicoke isn’t that far from Taranna’, is it? I’m in Ottawa whenever i can go . . . .
    Ghoul? You need a vacation?
Too bad school’s a little crazy soon.
I’ll hopefully be in Ottawa studying some cardiology around March - the drive can’t be THAT bad . . . can it?

  • About a 5 hour drive west on the 401 to get to Thornhill, it’s just north of Toronto. Ottawa that is. Etobicoke is now part of Toronto, it joined the Mega City a few years ago.

  • I have both. I found that AA is a bit better, but sence i have both i can play with destroyers and the escort rule for SBRs. AA is good for the first time cause it gives the poor axis player an allie =). but yes, the AAE is much more balanced.
