Invading Spain

Hello,
It is the US’s turn. We are still on turn 1, so the US is the last to go. My mother is Germany and I, Japan. I tried to go into China but got extremely unlucky with no rolls. I did take Pearl Harbor though. What should we, Axis, do next. My original goal was to take China here and fortify. Then I would finish US there and expand west, while also maintaining strong East. Not sure how I can do that now, though. Help.

I think you could make this work if you did the following: (keep in mind I am using the term “turn” loosely.  Think of it more in terms of once the US has purchased its attacking force and is now moving in.)

Turn 1: US buys only INF.  US places US ARM in E Canada onto Transports off the coast.  US Transports move to Gibraltar and unload. US places FTR’s on Gibraltar

Turn 2: US has Transports return to E Canada. US has INF purchased from last turn move from DC to E Canada

Turn 3: US places INF onto transports sends transports to W Europe and unloads.  US has ARM from Gibraltar move through Spain (costing 3 IPC’s) to meet up with US INF in W Europe.

A lot of times I send less ARM by transport b/c I can fit more INF.  This way you can shuttle you support units before you send your bullet spunges.

Now one thing you may have to look out for is German ARM to bring the fight to you in Gibraltar making it a costly battle (@ 5 IPC per tank vs. 3 IPC per INF) but keep in mind that the Germans will loose just as much b/c they will have to bridge Spain also sacraficing an INF push.

If they do you will have to put your INF in Spain and meet your ARM and FTR’s there.  yeah you won’t get the IPC’s from W Europe but you did effectively take pressure off of Russia and also make a foothold in Europe for allied troops to mass in.

What GI really meant by that statement:

While I don’t enjoy losing, it does not generally in any way detract from my enjoyment of the game. However, it does usually result in me obsessing over the conditions that led to my loss until the next time I play. So, overall, winning is probably better for my state of mind. Also, it’s more of the beginning and middle of games that I enjoy, where the outcome is still in doubt. Once a side or person gains a large advantage, then I tend to just want to give up and start over (even if I am the one winning)

There! I finally got it into a form that I was satisfied with.

Taking on UK can be done only on a surprise basis–your enemies must have no idea you are planning to go vs. UK until it’s too late for them to do anything about it. Even so, it’s risky…it’s rare that vs. expert players you’d even have a chance. But since you did it once… :wink:

Do as waraxis says and play all-out economic war vs. UK. Take India, take Australia; Germany should deploy heavily in Africa, take as much territory as possible, then attempt to link up w/ Japan through the Suez. You will be in the impossible compromise situation of having to save your FTRs & BMR for the attack, while at the same time keeping Allied ships away from North Sea. This is important as well because if the Allies start loading INF into USSR it will be impossible for you to survive. With a good 1/2->2/3 of the Japanese fleet in the Med, you will buy yourself a little time to build some TRs as Germany–build 'em all in 1 turn! The round of the assault, attack with all available Japanese forces to soften up the UK & take over the North Sea SZ. Then, on Germany’s turn, launch the main invasion.

Since UK is poor anyway, you will not net very many IPCs from plunder, but you have siezed an Allied capital that will be almost as difficult for them to liberate as it was for you to conquer.

Now just conquer USSR and you win! :o

As you can see, this is an extremely difficult maneuver to pull off, and one the Allies have to be practically helping you to do! But who knows? With the element of surprise–and if USA deploys in the Pacific…you never know…

My advice–kill USSR. If you can do that, THEN try to take UK. Or even USA, since they are sometimes easier to kill at that point in the game!
