The Germans never attacked one US Citizen until after we pre-emptively attacked them, just like in Iraq.
Lol, you’re so full of sh*t you must squeak. Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S. on Dec. 11, 1941.
Now Mary, i fully understand your feeling. I’m boycotting any further debate w/ Jen just begin to try to avoid degenerating into insults. You may consider the same
Anyway - you are correct. Following Canadian spy-master William Stephenson’s leaking of the false/putative “rainbow war plans” of the US suggesting that the US was to declare war against Germany, Germany pre-emptively declared war against the US. This forced the hand of the US:
To the Congress of the United States:
On the morning of Dec. 11 the Government of Germany, pursuing its course of world conquest, declared war against the United States. The long-known and the long-expected has thus taken place. The forces endeavoring to enslave the entire world now are moving toward this hemisphere. Never before has there been a greater challenge to life, liberty and civilization. Delay invites great danger. Rapid and united effort by all of the peoples of the world who are determined to remain free will insure a world victory of the forces of justice and of righteousness over the forces of savagery and of barbarism. Italy also has declared war against the United States.
I therefore request the Congress to recognize a state of war between the United States and Germany, and between the United States and Italy.
I havent heard anything about modern human footprints being found in million-year-old rock but let me guess at who found it, okay? Was it a “creation-scientist”? Or someone funded by the Discovery Institute or some other religiously-based “think tank”? Probably  Also,if evolution is a religion, then I am a devout believer!!  Darwin is the Son of God!!! Hallelujah!! Lets give him praise!! Thank you Darwin for saving me from the intellectual hell that is America!!
Field Marshall, although we differ in our beliefs, i really appreciate the way you approach these issues.
This is my last post on the subject (a promise i intend to keep better than FinsterniS in the death penalty series )
FinsterniS, as a scientist, i must acknowledge that we really know nothing about the creation of the world. We can guess and assume much, but scientifically these are of little value. I must acknowledge the possibility that there is no God/creator. I cannot prove that one exists, and all i can do is point to evidence, the value of which one might argue forever. I also can not prove adequately that evolution (or aliens) was related to the origen of the species (no pun intended). My intentions in posting on this forum were three-fold:
To suggest that 6/24 hour day creationists might modify their paradigm in keeping with the fact that mysteries may easily be explained by an evolutionary process (a la Occam’s razor) without subtracting from the glory of God.
To suggest to evolutionists that there is little reason to eliminate God from the equation, simply because an identifiable process has occurred.
To demonstrate that science and Christianity are not mutually exclusive systems, but rather might complement each other nicely.
FinsterniS - one can know facts and one can know feelings. God creating the world is not a testable, provable fact, and the bible is written long ago enough to make it suspect in your mind. I know the way i feel about this in a way that one might consider a product of psychosis or another supra-tentorial lesion, but let’s pray that for my patients’ sakes that’s not occurring. God NOT creating the world is neither a fact or a feeling (if it is a feeling, then what generated it?)
Also if you feel that i insulted your intelligence, then i do apologise. Your inability to concede that the bible may have any basis in fact or that Christianity is not necessarily the basis for superstition run amuck had found a foundation that no MA philosopher that i’d met had developed. No offence was intended, and you take me far more seriously than i do. I had considered your logic and intellect nearly unassailble, so for it to have been so easily assaulted, then i must assume that only the dull-witted are not easily insulted (i don’t insult very easily as i generally consider the source and circumstances, and determine what what degree it is necessary to be insulted. Either that or i don’t know when i am being insulted half of the time.
Finally, although i do try to reply, the fact that i don’t always is because:
i’ve just written the hardest exams of my life last week (grad school, i’ve determined, is not very difficult)
it is now summer time, i am on vacation, which means parties, bbq’s, and there are still too many trails that my DaVinci Cactus and i have yet to violate and conquer.
i am packing for a trip to Europe in order to further annoy your fellow Europeans. I understand that politeness is rote in many European countries including Germany, however i’d never heard it true of the French. I’ve obviously much to learn.
With respect to the whole “other people going to hell” question in another post - i’ve dealt with that previously as well.
Anyway, maybe see you guys in a few weeks and i hope you have a great summer.
p.s. if any of you wish to MSN me - esp. Mr. Ghoul as we live in the same city - look for Crypt Abs (pun on “Crypt Abs says” - “Crypt Abcess”)
The results of the study seem to be a mixed bag. See the BJM editorial…
The fact that the study was authorized and sponsored by proponents of California Proposition 99(Anti-Smoking group)and then dropped because of the apparent survey outcome seems to balance the equation for me.
That’s akin to a district attorney gathering evidence that contradicts the outcome s/he wishes in a case. Then not turning the results of the investigation over to the defense attorney. The facts are hiden from the jury…
For a BJM overview and acces to a BJM abridged version of the survey, see…
I remember reading about a balloonist in the 80’s who was trying to circumnavigate the world.
He crossed into soviet airspace over Romania accidentally and was shot down.
But that wasn’t the best part lol… the pilots who shot him down recieved medals for “bravery in the face of extreme danger”
L O L !
Another case where a balloon was mistaken as an “UFO”. Lol
Well Garg, those pilots WERE flying Soviet aircraft. Pretty brave if you ask me.
