Aircraft question

Good Idea, working up to the full scale.  And your right if you don’t have an objective of turn limit Infantry are a waste of time.  With an objective Close assault becomes possible.

1.  Changing your facing is free as part of your movement.  If you cannot move (say due to disruption) or if in the assualt phase you you opt to attack instead of moving then you cannot chnage facing.

2.  Unless otherwise indicated on the card, all units can fire in any direction regardless of the facing.  Units that have restrinction are noted on the card and usually state “Fixed Howitzer” or some similar special ability (or restriction as the case may be).

Additionally, if you download the scenarios that you’ll find at www.axisandallies.com, they’ll actually list suggested units for you.  It makes quick, pick-up games much easier to get started.

The scenario.  An infantry soldier is in a town hex and a vehicle crosses the open ground and enters the same hex.  The soldier is entitled to defensive fire.

The rule states the defensive fire effects (ie which hex it occurs)  is determined by the defender.  In this case that means the defender says if the effect take place in the open ground hex or if it happens in the town hex.

Question.  If the defender awaits until the vehicle has entered the town hex, can he use his abilities to attack vehicles in his own hex with the far superior dice rolls or is Defensive fire only about direct fire

Yes. You get to chose where the defencive-fire occurs, and if you have any special abilities such as flamethrower or close assault you can use them. Only a few abilities are worded such that they can’t be used for defencive-fire (eg the Goliath’s ). So if your unit is, for example, simply a regular infantry it will probably be best to make the defencive-fire attack in the same hex where it can use its close assault.

Can a spotter also spot voor arty/mortars?

The Spotter SA applies only to Aircraft.
Any units that have **Indirect Fire say so. (Currently: GE sGrW 34 81mm Mortar, SV 82mm PM-37 Mortar, US M7 105mm Priest)

Can defensive fire result in anything more then disruption?

Defencive-Fire does NOT result in a hit against the unit; it simply gives a face-up disrupted token. Having more than one face-disrupted token has no additional effect on a unit. They do not cause damage/destroyed results because They Are Not Hits.

However units can still use their Special Abilities during defencive-fire which may cause more than disruption. For example if you provoke defencive-fire from a flamethrower and it rolls three 6s, it DOES still immediately destroy the unit.

Can a disrupted vehicle change facing?

No; the rules specifically say they can’t.**

Changing facing doesn’t take up movement “points.”  When you get to your destination hex, you can face whichever hex side you wish.  And instead of moving to another hex, you can change facing within the same hex.

However, if you are face-up disrupted, you cannot change facing, because you cannot move.  And if defensive fire or a failed movement roll stops your movement, you must stop facing the hex you tried to enter.
