I think the issue with this is there aren’t really a lot of “pitched battles” in the Revolution. I think this would need to be more on the lines of the AH “Battlecry” or DOW’s “Memoir '44” based on the commands and colors “engine.”

They way they are representing this in the states is horriffic. I read a story on Yahoo news today that framed the story as though the Sgt Meyer was actually suffering from PTSD or had some other mental problem from his experiance in Afganistan. The article started with mentioning how President Obama commented that Sgt Meyer was very “down to earth” but then this is framed like some tragic statment implying that he is disturbed. Worse then that, the story has since been removed    :oops:

One last: Jen made the point that to almost win is the same as losing. Not true. For example, if I punch someone in the face repeatedly, and ALMOST knock him out, did I somehow lose the fight? Meade’s forces were defeated on the first day… Meade was punched repeatedly on the 2nd, but stayed on his feet… Lee thought he could land the knock-out blow with Pickett, and failed.

That is basically Gettysberg, in one paragraph.

Just to extend the metaphore further, Gettysberg was like a three-round fight:

Round 1: Lee cautiously approaches Meade. Lee lands several devastating blows. Meade staggers. Lee continues pummelling Meade, but Meade is saved by the bell. Meade retreats to his corner and regroups.
Lee wins the round.

Round 2: Meade assumes a defensive stance. Lee pummels Meade the entire round, opening up several cuts. Meade reels, staggers, drops to the ground twice, but Lee misses several knockout blows. Meade counters and bloodies Lee.
Lee narrowly wins the round on points.

Round 3: Meade keeps his defensive stance, knows Lee will go for the knockout blow to the center. Lee begins the round with a weak attack that Meade easily counters. Lee and Meade circle each other warily. Lee, unaware he is ahead on points, throws one last desperate haymaker. Meade guards his center. Lee breaks his hand on Meade’s forearm. Meade, barely conscious, has a chance to finish the fight, but is too battered, bruised and bloodied to do anything but wait for the bell.

Lee is unable to continue the fight. Meade wins a TKO.

I know a few Rangers and I have a couple buddies that wear the crash helmits.  From what I hear the reactions in the movie were pretty acurate.  I was in the Army at the time and I was so pissed when they showed that crap on TV.  We all thought for sure that it was on Like donkey kong, but our CinC was a little light in the testical department.  At least thats how we saw it.  I was personaly ashamed when we pulled out.

Anyway if you have the time read the book, I’ve read it twice, damn good stuff, a good insight into the views aof some hard soldiers.  I’ve wanted to try for a combat jack ever since I read it…

Agent_Smith - Its a small college, but I won’t get into which one. Too many psychos on the internet! :roll: Sorry I didn’t specify, but I thought that “college” was implicit in my statement about the summer semester. And yes, I’m in the abd phase of the Phd. You are correct that I was taking an absolutist position, but I thought that this simplistic and addle-brained poll/thread lent itself to such. My first instinct was to steer clear of it, but at least some intelligent discourse was generated.

Old cars really aren’t that fast without a supercharger or a hemi or a blower. If you want something to be fast, you most likely have to upgrade. Oldie but a goodie;whatever that means.
