Here’s a great project that a filmmaker has been working on. And I think it’s especially nice that he’s a young man, not someone from a generation closer to WWII.

A young American filmmaker is on a mission to interview every last Second World War veteran to share the stories of as many combat veterans as possible – before it is too late.

Rishi Sharma has spent the past three years documenting the lives of living Second World War veterans in the U.S., U.K. and Canada for his non-profit organization Heroes of the Second World War.

The average age of Second World War vet is now 93 years old, and the number of survivors is slowly diminishing with the passing of time.

After three years of visiting seniors’ homes to record veterans’ stories, Sharma says has filmed more than a thousand interviews.

Really the only thing that they talked about was with the Mistsibushi Shipyards as a whole as building port for their ships.  Most of the damage that the shipyards received were from bombings that took place on about August 1st.  The Power plant, and the factory (I want to say tanks or steelworks), were not so lucky.  The Shipyards were shielded by the hills.

The Office of Emergency Management of yesteryear sure operated a bit different differently than the Homeland Security of today in regards to information to the public. Get’s me kinda in the mood to beat the Russians into the Ukraine.

Yes, I love the almost boyish enthusiasm in this video.  It’s made in a similar spirit to those G.I. Joe action figure commercials from the early 1960s, which actually used new lyrics set to the same tune (“G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe, fighting man from head to toe…”).

Some of the armoured / motorized maneuvers in the Caissons video remind me of the tank and bouncing-jeep sequence (set to the tune of “You’re in the Army Now”) found near the end of the classic WWII cartoon “War Dogs” :

Yes I’m also reading the book guardedly. Some of these materials I’ve been reading have basically moved me to your position - that the whole truth is somewhere in between everything we get exposed to. But I’m no longer a Churchill or Roosevelt fan boy who thinks the allies all wore the white hats and the Axis only the black hats.

I tend to enjoy reading the memoirs of actual soldiers, whether they be on the Axis or Allied side, because they don’t seem to have any big political agenda - only to tell it like it was for them in their squad. In these you can actually read individual cases - from German soldiers on the East front who were kind to Russian civilians to Americans in Italy who raped and killed civilians.
