Our group doesn’t allow jumping what so ever and we use the Fighting Railroads expansion. We require direct path of all rail lines and we give the freedom that any cross or Y section of the rail line has a switcher and we also play the different gauge rules.

I do not see why the rules wouldn’t allow it but I would assume building a rail line inside a territory itself would logically conclude that all rails lines inside that territory are now connected regardless.

If you look, you can fortify Smolensk, and then build a line across the Northern section. The south is not the best, but it can work. Other short fronts include bengal or burma, or a defense of France in Normandy or Northern Loraine.

I think that Vichy cannot attack a liberated Paris.

Rule 14.4.3 says that Vichy can only ever attack Free France.

The Vichy NRS says that “If Vichy attacks a Free French land zone containing units not from Free France, these non Free French units do not participate in the combat and are moved to the nearest land zone in their possession”.

However, the Free France NRS says that “If Free French liberates Paris, it becomes a Major Power (effectively becomes France again)”.

Plus, on a related Vichy question in the FAQ :

"Q: What happens if USA liberates Aquitaine? Does it become Free French? And if so, can Vichy attack?

A: Aquitaine is an original French land zone. Until Paris is liberated, “France” does not exist. Thus, USA can not give it back as per 9.20. So any Allied forces liberating a Territory in French Home Country gets to keep it until Paris is liberated and “France” once again becomes a Major Power.

Vichy cannot attack an US possessed land zone."

For these reasons, I would think that Vichy cannot attack a liberated Paris, as France has been reinstated as a major power and is no longer Free France. They would essentially get to wait until Southern France is liberated.

Haha that was directly related to being new to the game. My brother’s first time playing. I’m trying to remember what he said, but he either had forgotten about the Maginot Line rule, or just didn’t think the attack also coming from Picardia would make it happen (thus my asking the original question here).

In the end he knew he’d blow by (and he was right, I think I only rolled one kill from the defenses there), and wanted to use his Lightning Strike ability. It was the last turn to use it, and his men in Munich would have been out of place to help if they didn’t also attack.

Just a learning curve mistake! I will say, teaching someone new makes you realize how much there is to learn in the game. I’d read the rules multiple times over before even purchasing the map, so I already had/have a good base, as opposed to him or others going in completely blind.
