  • Hoorah, I finally get to keep Mexico. The odds were low, but it was my only hope that I could survive to build and finally get favorable dice. The first two games, I couldn’t even win the opening sea battle and my transports were sunk, and this game, I lost a unit taking Guad. While you only took one hit taking Chih. The bad news is that G will spend a lot more defending Mex than it will earn.


  • My wolfpack attacked the small Allied fleet because it didn’t have a DD, and so I had the best chance of an overwhelming victory. I knew you could counterattack, but that would require you to weaken your home fleet. And the Fr would lose its transport and bombarding ship. I was surprised that you used your whole fleet to sink my wolfpack. And then spent more than half your income building a new fleet that I can sink in one round, rather than using the minimum fleet needed or not building in Eng Chan. I know you plan to counterattack, but the odds are not great, as I’ll likely only take 2 hits attacking you and my BB’s will repair.

  • Third time was a charm again for me in London. Now that G has the Channel, the fleet will go defensive and just stay there. Prevents UK from attacking Belgium and allows bombardment of London after you retake it. Neither UK, nor U.S. can dislodge the fleet. I didn’t get a tech, but built 3 subs in the Channel with the Belg factory. Time to trade sides and let me get some experience as Allies.

  • With a country like Serbia, which has more build capacity than income, I prefer to build 2 infantry instead of a HG. Austria can build lots of gas and/or cav to attack Greece sooner. So Serbia needs more hit points than defense points to absorb the gas. Once Austria has large armies within 2 spaces of Greece, Serbia won’t be attacking anymore. So it doesn’t need guns. As to all those trenches in France, lots of trenches are fine for Paris, which has a big garrison. But lots of trenches in a territory with few ground troops, just makes it more cost effective for G to use gas to kill the troops.

  • Tuscany was scary. Odds were almost 100% with 18 units left without using gas, so I didn’t use the gas since I didn’t get the tech. But Italy rolled great. Part of the -6 dice for Aust was attacking Mac, which was meaningless with just one defender. One of the first times Aust was able to include amphib invasion against Tusc. Despite fewer survivors, battle calc says Tusc has good odds of holding against counterattack, especially if you also try for Milan. The Kaiser wasn’t pleased that Aust is sacrificing his garrison in Milan. But Aust did build a trench. Sinking the transport reduces Italy’s flexibility.
