CWO Marc, I have to disagree with you on the infantry statement. The British infantry is different from the American one. Although the difference may be slight it is not the same, but you are correct in the statement that the Aussies’ are just gray Brits.

I said that the Global 1940 1st edition UK sculpt set included a few American designs.  I didn’t say that it used American infantry units.  Every power except ANZAC in Global 1940 1st edition has a distinct infantry sculpt; in Global 1940 2nd edition, every power (including ANZAC) has a distinctive infantry sculpt.  The Global 1940 1st edition UK sculpt set used American designs for a few of its equipment (meaning non-infantry) units – not many, but a few.  I can’t recall the full list off the top of my head, but I think the Mech unit was one of them.

Since the type of unit is not specified, any land or air unit will work.

Movement is counted every time a unit crosses a border.  Land to land, land to sea zone or seazone to seazone.

Formosa-Z20-Z36-Z37-siam is 4 moves as it crosses the borders between (1) formosa and SZ20, (2) SZ20 to SZ36, (3) SZ36 to SZ 37 and finally (4) SZ37 to Siam.

If you move a plane through a seazone that includes an island you are not obligated to cross the island border unless you’re landing there or attacking there.  Otherwise you just move through the seazone and ignore the island.

I’m not 100% sure about how Kamikaze attacks prevent shore bombardment during amphibious assaults. Can anyone please explain with perhaps an example? The manual merely states:

“A Kamiaze attack prevents a bombardment supporting an amphibious assault.”

This is extremely brief and, I believe, needs further clarification. I know that Japan may use her full quota of up to 6 Kamikaze attacks (even all against the same enemy surface warship) in the one battle, if she desires. Is it true that ONE Kamikaze attack prevents ALL Battleships and Crusiers from bombarding, or is it done on a 1 for 1 basis? By that I mean does each single Kamikaze only prevent 1 ship from bombarding? Say there are 3 bombarding ships and Japan can make 2 kamikaze strikes - are 2 of the bombardments cancelled whilst the 3rd may go ahead?

Also, I saw this question & answer come up at one point in the FAQ thread:

A. A kamikaze alone will prevent shore bombardment.

Does the answer here relate to my paragraph above, in that one kamikaze prevents ALL shore bombardment? I would really appreciate a clarification on how this all works, thank you.

Either ALL bombardment occurs (no naval battle) or NO bombardment occurs.  “A” bombardment does not refer to a single ship, but the entire group of ships firing their single round.

A single Kamikaze plane causes a naval battle in that seazone.  A naval battle eliminates the possibility of shore bombardment from that seazone.  period.

Nevermind - the answer is on pg. 16.  Looks like attacking air units can either be chosen to defend against the scramble (i.e. participate in the sea battle), or can ignore the scramble and assist in the amphib assault - but cannot do both.

The two units must start and end their movement together.

Maybe I should hurry up and paint the tails of some of my spare Japanese fighters red now, so we have enough Japanese TAC air (we used the Italian fighters last game day).

We are using spare Russian fighters from an A&AE edition. Our convention is Russian fighters are Tac Air for the IJA and we use the Vals for the Tac Air for the IJN. It works out pretty well. :)

Just a quick question : So the AC now has 0 attack. What is his defense? Still 2?

Did they modify the defense on the battleboard?
