Another idea has been that each cruiser would only fire an AA shot at 1 attacking plane.
This is better than 3 shots per ship IMO.
So our Cruisers combine those ideas and get: 1-An attack and a defense @3 + 1 bombard @3,
2-A first round AA @1 against 1 attacking aircraft,
3-Cruisers when they shoot, either on attack or defense, and roll a 1 can force the attacker/defender to remove a plane.
In the game I played, the AA has more of a psychological impact than a real effect.
Indeed, it never destroyed any aircraft. And thus, neither by the AA and even by the “1” roll which force the defender to destroy an aircraft.
But UK bought 3 cruisers, instead of any BB, against German Luftwaffe.
Thanks everybody, those suggestions makes cruiser a more interesting unit that worth buying.
However, it can be a real nuisance for Germany but it may also help protect the Baltic fleet against UK aircrafts: at least, it slightly upgrade the Baltic fleet to better defend against attacking UK planes.
But it would be too easy for both parties to stall and drag things out 25 turns. Trust me, I would. And there are plenty of games that go into the 30+ turn range on the forum that are absolute epics. Why take away awesome part of the game away?
If you are looking to shorten durations or have a clear ending, look at YG’s house rules. He uses a series of “points” that can be earned once certain tasks are accomplished. That way there are “goals” when the game ends. It makes it much easier at the end of any round to determine if there is a winner or a tie.
Well if germany fails to take moscow and the middle east and are pushed back in asia not much stalling can be done.
Sure japan can stall a little but after a certain point things become inevitable and you cannot slow it down. Only thing japan can do is buy 10 inf a round on their capital. But they can only do that 3-4 turns max, after that they wont have the income anymore. Sure 30 inf is annoying but you can easy bombard that away in 10+ turns. With a few anzac cruisers and dropping 4 inf a round you and the same thing for the US thats 4-6 units a turn killed 5 turns and your done.
You have some thoughts about new rules and new units for the Milton Bradley-era A&A? I am right there with you. I posted some thoughts late last year / early this year. I will link them below so that you can find them. If you want to discuss these rules, I recommend commenting on the relevant post rather than right here. But you do you.
One thing I will mention. I like paratroopers and paratrooper rules. But using bombers to cart around paratroopers is both silly and not historically accurate. So, I wrote rules for another new unit, the Air Transport or Cargo Plane unit. Think of them as Transports in the sky - with less cargo capacity and more movement points. See, when you fold in both the Paratrooper and their trusty steeds, the cargo plane / air transport, then I think you’ve got something…
