What a tough turn but I again reached the point I am not willing to invest more time.
@axis-dominion lol yes. Whatever else happens in this game, at least I have kept Italy from becoming a 70 IPC monster. Even if I lose, I will treat that as a personal accomplishment.
@JDOW I’m glad it was a tough turn. I knew that it was unlikely that you would go for it, but I still have trouble giving opponents almost 80% odds. My sense though was that I didn’t have to win there for it to still work out for me, just needed to avoid a disastrous dicing.
And my other option was Marianas. I was just about to start the combat round on a turn where I had gone there, when I decided to do Sumatra. If I was doing well in Europe, I would have gone for the safe move, but I felt I needed something more decisive in the pacific to still have a chance in this game.
I think I was set for a move to Marianas, I believe it would have had less impact than the Sumatra move. I would have easily defended Tokyo and would have been uncontested in the South. I believe the Mariana move would only be dangerous in combination with a Harbour. That’s why I decided to sac a transport in order to take that options away.
A fleet attack was a no-go with India back in UK hands. Japan cannot cripple its air force with all 3 around, India, China and the Russians. Now the Indians are gone and the Chinese crippled. So 2/4 accomplished but the situation in the Southern Pacific is miserable.
As said, I forgot to run the odds at Sumatra, only at Java where I would have attacked if you moved there. I had a turn mapped out to stay at Java with my fleet. Maybe, I should have going for this option (maybe with a Harbour at Java)
So let’s see. Japan is in trouble but has some accomplishments on her side and still a pretty intact force on all 3 elements, land, air and water.
And I think it is apparent the Germans are in good shape.

@JDOW Yeah. That I couldn’t build a naval base there was a significant factor in deciding not to do that. Although in this case, the move I made was the right one, given the need to change the situation in the pacific quickly.
Given the position of the Germans I think it will be tough for me to turn this around. I think I needed to find a way to slow you down a bit more in Europe to have a chance, but I’ll still give it a try. Should get to the turn tomorrow. I think I know the broad outlines and US combat is mapped out, but still need to consider the turn as a whole.
And yes. this is an exciting and tough game!
