    So I am sitting here going “Why did he move into the Pacific?” Frankly I thought you were doing a great job of putting pressure on stopping the Axis from taking Egypt or getting back a second VC somewhere else. So I was like why go after Japan? So I went back and looked at the BM3 rules and found that if the Axis loses Berlin or Tokyo they need an additional VC on the other side of the board to win. Very interesting. I guess I should have read the rules more closely.

    I am going to say right off, and I know you had nothing to do with the BM3 Rules, I do not like that rule at all. It totally changes the entire game. One very important part of splitting the board into two victory conditions was so the Allies, who have a lot more money, cannot concentrate on one side of the board. This rule allows them to do that.

    For this game, luckily, I am in a position to get further resources to Japan but that is pure luck. It was not planned in any way, shape or form. Obviously I should have bought 10 infantry last time in Japan instead of the 3 fighters.

    I was out for a while and a thought popped into my head that maybe the rule about needing to control Berlin/Tokyo was a new rule and not an OOB rule. As soon as I got back I was going to make sure you aware but it never crossed my mind before that. Been 7 years since I have played OOB.

    Personally I think its one of the best features of BM3. The fact that you can abandon half the game for a VC rush as axis is complete nonsense. Meanwhile allies have to technically get both Tokyo and Berlin.

    OOB is so broken, I have no desire to ever play it again. Not sure how you keep getting games with bids in 30s. I doubt I would take less than 70.

    Havent looked at german turn, let me know if you need to redo it.

    You are still in good shape but far from the certainty you had if the rules werent what they are.

    Nope, Germany is good. I figured it out after taking Italy and before taking Germany.


  • I agree the bid needs to be high for OOB. I would not take less than 60 myself. For me, the difference is you once you stop the VC Rush of the axis then it can be a long game and still be even. With a high bid you can stop that VC Rush. My initial impression of BM 3 is that the Axis must win quickly as they cannot win a long term game because the money is so much on the Allied side.

    depends on what you mean by quickly. If axis play conservative and sit back for 20 rounds then sure, they are going to lose. But no reason for axis to rush and try to win 10 rounds or anything. Axis can easily gain economic advantage and hold it in BM3, same as OOB, but just requires a different approach.

    Axis Econ is usually about equivalent to allied Econ by turn 7 or so and they maintain the dominant central position the entire game.

    didnt realize you could get the Wger bombers to Japan. knew about the SIt bombers but missed the WGer. But still glad to see 12 bombers out of europe.

    I assume you mean only if the axis maintain control of the Med? As I said my impression is the Allies have more money but this is my first game and as you said you’ve been playing for 7 years. I’ll have to sit down and look at the board with what if axis owned this and what if I allied own that and see if the game could be even.

    I have played it for 2 years (dont think its much older than that) , took a 5 year break.

    Axis dont need the med. Germany typically controls the Caucasus region and can get money in ME. Japan can defend the islands well and easily take India without blitzing. Typically by round 7 or 8, Germany is making in the 80+, Japan is making 80, and Italy maybe not much depending on allied play.

    But it requires a different strategy than what you used (not that its working poorly for you)
