Here is an interesting bit of historical trivia. The US 8th Air Force actually had bases in the Ukraine for a short time. From June to September 1944, the 8th Air Force started a shuttle run of bombers that would take off from England and Italy, bomb targets in Germany then fly on to 3 bases in the Ukraine, Piryatin, Mirgorod and Poltava. The reasoning was mainly to show solidarity with the Russians and to hit Germany from an unexpected quarter.
The mission was called “Operation Frantic”. I don’t think it was much of a success. One reason is that the Luftwaffe bomber arm was still fairly strong in the East. Some Luftwaffe planes saw the American bombers heading into Russia. Then when a shot up P-51 crashed in Poland, it had documents on the Russian bases. Luftwaffe command was notified and they send Fliegerkorps IV, nearly 350 He 111s, to pound those bases while the B-17s were lined up in neat rows due to lack of space. It was the 8th Air Force’s costliest single operation of the war.
I didn’t even know about this until I read it in World War II magazine.
[Global 1940] House Rules..

Hey guys, I’m wondering if any of you have any good house rules that you’ve played with. Here are some examples that my friend and I use for A&A 1940:
-
my favorite is transport planes and airborne troops that every nation can produce, so the transport plane can move 6 spaces like a bomber and drop off 1 airborne unit mid-flight, the airborne troops cost 4 and roll 1 better than regular infantry https://egp.cnv.to/usd/69
-
added elite units such as Rangers, Commandos, Bersaglieri, SS for their respective armies that cost more than regular infantry, but can do a “surprise strike” on the first turn of an attack destroying an enemy unit before it participates and in general role better than infantry
-
divided tanks into light, medium, and heavy categories, pretty self explanatory, the bigger and more expensive the better
-
added an Escort Carrier which is basically a smaller aircraft carrier that defends at a 1 and only carries one plane
I’m interested to hear what you think, of course there are more details, but I didn’t want to copy and paste the whole home rule book
this hasn’t upset the balance so far, so we think it plays well

Welcome to the forumLots of house rules are in the “House Rules” category, where I moved your topic to.
Have fun.

I’ve been considering transport planes that operate like a transport ship i.e. carries 1 infantry plus 1 additional land unit. No offensive/defensive capabilities. Perhaps the same cost as a regular transport ship.
I’ve seen the medium/heavy tank mod discussed before. My question is what are you using for the counters?
Do you have a link to all you HR’s?

@barnee
well maybe best just to go to tripleathis is how air transports are currently set up. Not 100% ideal but triplea is limited
- “AirTransport_GiveToAll” Adds the Air Transport unit. Air Transport is a A0 D0 M5 +1 w/AB C6 unit. It may transport Elite units in either combat move or ncm on a 1:1 basis. May be taken as casualty. This tech must be activated by each player in order for them to receive the tech ability. Note When Attacking you will have the option of retreating if your Flight Path is over Allied controlled territories. Over water or enemy territories and you will be unable to. Sometimes Triplea will not allow a Legal move. Use Edit “Perform Move or Other Actions” to complete your move. TripleA will not keep track of your remaing movement when using Edit. May also be activated via Map Options.

Air Transport is a A0 D0 M5 +1 w/AB C6 unit.I like the stats for the Air Transport. Have you considered having it operate like a Transport Ship i.e. carries one infantry plus one other ground unit?
How are you differentiating between light, medium and heavy tanks and what’s your A/D/M/C ratio?
