I'm wondering about which games get played the most?

Hello everyone, I’m new and trying to hook up with willing foes, but unless folks are willing to play classic, I have no experience with any other version of A&A, and so would most probably be a waste of others gaming time.

That being said, I wonder if there is a format for asking for a game, and listing which games I am interested in playing, as well as listing the games I have played, and how good/bad I am at them.

Right now, I’m looking for classic players to play over TripleA, as I have at least some years of playing the classic A&A board game. I also just got the Anniversary Edition, but have not even read the rules yet, so Have no experience with that game at all.

So I guess my Gaming resume would be something like this:

Game Type experience playing which version/editions? rating is tournament play other
Classic TripleA 30+ years board game 1 week 1st and 2nd editions and TripleA Never Played Never Played notes and stuff.
Anniversary Edition Not played it yet OOB Never Played Never Played
A&A&Z TripleA Don’t have it, yet is there one, yet? None Never Played Never Played
G40 TripleA Don’t have it, yet Not tried it. None Never Played Never Played

Is this a good idea to post what I have done, or would this be a distraction? Anyway, what I meant to ask was, which games do I need to get, in order to be able to find opponents here? Axis & Allies & Zombies is in the works for next month, but G40 is still a ways off.

G40 (Second Edition) is played the most by far, along with its modification Balanced Mod 3. If you’re ever interested in joining the League, you could get acquainted with those. I consider G40 the most fun. I know a couple players who really like Classic and maybe they would play with you.
Some other non-A&A variants I like are Napoleonic Empires, Domination 1914, and World at War 1940. Those are common Team Games here if you’re interested in that.

@Colt45-554 Interesting! How many different games are there in total? I’m definitely interested in classic games, as I’ve played them before and enjoy them. For all the others, I’m going to want too have the physical game, and a place too set it up, before I start messing around online. Sounds like next month, I’ll have my work cut out for me.

    Get an idea here:
    https://triplea-game.org/maps-list/maps/
    and here:
    https://github.com/triplea-maps

Most of those do not exist as physical boardgames, as those are user created maps.
Also you won’t find a TripleA map related to AAZ.

  • TripleA

As @Colt45-554 mentions, Global 40 2nd and Balanced Mod 3 of it are by far the most popular here on A&A org with their own league that is very active playing on TripleA: https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/category/29/league. After that its kind of a assortment of mostly TripleA custom maps like Napoleonic Empires, Domination 1914 NML, World at War (WaW), LOTR, etc.

On the Online TripleA lobby, the most popular maps are probably in this order: revised (v2), Global 40, World at War (WaW), New World Order (NWO), Total World War, Big World, and anniversary (v3).

As @Panther mentions, most of the custom TripleA maps don’t exist as a physical board game. So the best way to learn is play against the AI.

If you want something similar to classic and like playing online then revised (v2) is probably your best bet. If you prefer playing PBF/PBEM then Global 40 is your best bet but it is more complex and a longer game. But the best thing to do is try a bunch of different maps out to see what you like.

Holy Cow! Heh heh, maybe it was just me, but I was really just thinking in terms of their being one or more computer versions of the various A&A board games contained within TripleA.

Those links were a real eye-opener.

    Thanks for the heads up!

@redrum Ah! I got a guy willing to play, but I don’t know when he will be available to actually start a game, so this weekend might be a game or three after all.
