A few comments:
I didn’t realize that invading Amur automatically activates the Mongolians. I thought they just became pro-Allied neutrals. Is that a change from Global '40 to Balanced Mod, or have I always been playing that wrong?
The point of moving the Japanese fleet to Queensland a few turns ago was to keep the US fleets away from the Chinese coast, so that I’d be able to build transports in Tokyo and use them to ship units south. That plan more or less worked – I took very heavy losses in the Queensland battle, but I’m also holding both China and the money islands. Perhaps it was not a very good plan, but I achieved the goals that I set.
The battle calculator says that average dice would have given me 12 units left after the Amur battle – 7 planes and 5 land units. That would have been enough to spread out, take control of Siberia, and still dominate the sea zones around Tokyo. Instead I got diced and wound up with 4 planes and 1 land unit. That happens; it’s a dice game, but it leaves Japan without the forces it needs to keep the momentum going. Instead of gaining income at Russia’s expense, Japan is going to be at best treading water for the next few turns.
Given that Germany and Italy are also basically just treading water right now, and that the Allies are still outearning the Axis by 30 IPCs a turn, I’m probably going to surrender soon unless something drastic happens. I’ve been enjoying the game, but we’re rapidly moving into a situation where the Axis don’t have anything realistic to hope for. You could make a huge blunder or roll terrible dice, but with normal luck and normal play, I’m not really seeing any paths to victory from this position.

OK, I think this game is over, then – because the Axis had no straightforward paths to victory, I attacked the Allied Med fleet at low odds to see if I could get lucky there, but I think I rolled below-average again, and I also rolled below-average in all of the land battles. I could have abandoned Egypt, put the units I purchased in Rome, and kept Italy alive for one more turn even after all those losses, but why bother? The game was going nowhere interesting for the Axis before I5, and the problem is that much worse after I5.
It’s interesting to see the limits of the Vichy rule…rendering northwest Africa pro-Axis neutral is of limited use if the Allies stack up near Gibraltar and you need a landing spot. I suppose the Germans should have walked into Southern France on G5 to create more of a dead zone in SZ 92…the Italian bomber would have been able to land in Southern France, and I could have sent two of the Italian fighters out without building that ridiculous carrier.

Thanks for the game. Perhaps it was a mistake to give you the shot at London G2. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. UK was stretched pretty thin, but when it held on in London, I think the Axis were pretty doomed, unless Japan could bring out the victory. Would have been a more interesting game if you’d won. USA would have had to go hard to liberate London and Italy would have gone hog wild. I got unlucky in China when it counted and you looked like cleaning them up easily but India wasn’t in any danger anytime soon. USA was in danger of taking back money islands or at least making Japan fight for them.
