    I decided it was in your best interest to to sink 9 of the 10 DDs and sink a third CV. The DD had the same defensive value as the CV, but protected against (two) pre-emptive sub strikes the following round.

    Marti definitely did the Axis a favor. The Japanese expected 19 hits the first round and got 23, the Allies expected 18 hits and got only 13. The Japanese then got another 23 hits the second round.

    Eliminating the Ally fleet in SZ 41 takes a lot of pressure off the Japanese in the Pacific–especially with the Ally fleet in the Atlantic heading toward Western Europe. However, it does not ensure an Axis victory. The Ally fleet off the coast of Western Europe puts a lot of stress on the Axis in Europe and necessitates careful planning to avoid a fatal misstep.
