    The edits might be  confusing. I changed my mind on an NCM and  I removed two carriers loaded with two figs and two tacs by Hong Kong. Moved the carriers to Japan instead along with 1 fig and 1 tac. The other two air I put by Malaya to be put on a carrier to be built there. The game didn’t let me edit in the air until the carrier was present.

    Well, this is a painful slow death, so I think it is best to concede at this point. I have posted the results of the game on the forum.

    You are easily the best player I have encountered so far, and I can tell you have learned well from the “masters” of the community. Your Axis defense of the Med was superb, and your Japanese play was flawless.

    I will set up our game 2 with me as Axis. Do you need any kind of break before we start that?

    Thanks for the game and the complements.

    I’m a believer now that the game is unbalanced in favour of the axis and I thought that I had  a bit of a dice edge through the game. Nothing too substantial and not so much any major battles (although Norway went particularly well for me and was an important one) but I thought you were frequently taking more casualties in the smaller battles (e.g. against Japanese destroyer blockers). I think you ‘arguably’ made a couple of mistakes in round 1 but that you played a smarter game than me after. I just got lucky that the dice and advantage I had from round 1 were able to carry me through.

    I might be a little slow over the next couple of days and am on a short vacation from Tuesday to Friday next week but can start the next one whenever you like.

    Round one (and the G2 attack on the British fleet) in the Western Med was certainly the killer. The American “daylight” strategic bombing didn’t work out so well, either  :wink:

    I am on vacation next week also Monday through Saturday, so lets start our next game the week following.

    Its been a little while so I may not recall as well. And I said arguable, because I think these things are probably debatable too (what I see as your mistake might just be a combination of me making risky attacks combined with lucky dice).

    But definitely I recall that you exposed your British fleet in the Med. If you are going to move the carrier to Gibraltar, I think you also need to stack Algeria with both UK transports and a fighter or two to make it hard for the Italians to open up a landing spot. I might misremember how  that played out but I think you left Algeria open to the Italians so the Germans could hit with the air and still land.

    I also tend to think that often a heavy US build in the Atlantic on US 1 without a Japan DOW is a mistake since those units can’t get in position in the Pacific and by postponing the Japan DOW I can keep them stuck on the Eastern seaboard. This was advice I got from Adam from a game earlier this year. Before then, my tendency was to spend more in the Atlantic early as well.

I played Allies earlier against an aggressive Axis player and brought the whole British fleet to SZ92, and didn’t put a blocker at all in 94, and he sunk my whole fleet with the Italians. He was lucky, but this time I thought, well, the blocker is what I need. I did not consider that German fighters could reach and land in Algeria.

    I notice alot of good Allies players send their British carrier to the Persian Gulf! What is the point of that? I don’t like conceding the Med to the Italians. Is the Taranto raid out-of-vogue now? I haven’t liked it, but it is better to at least sink the Italian BB if the British CV is indefensible in the Med anyway.

    I haven’t tried the Persian Gulf move although I am thinking I should look at it more closely. I guess folks aim toconsolidate the med and pacific UK fleets there and use it to threaten Italy and Japan.And there have been times where my allied opponent has been able to bring that fleet into the Med to deny Italy the bonus and more directly threaten the Italian fleet and Rome. Its definitely been used against me and it has been troublesome.

    When I first started playing online last year, I learned on these boards that Taranto was the standard UK opener but I haven’t seen it used often. And I’m not entirely convinced it should be the default best move for the UK. At least for me it often ended up in a trade of the UK med fleet for the Italy fleet. With German help, Italy could recover and I had lost valuable units that were effective as a threat or to combine with the US fleet.
