A correction regarding Finland

  • Background:
Finland always occupied a place of continual wars and conflicts between Sweden and Russia, with 2 wars occurring within 25 years of each other in the 18th century.  As a continuation of the Anglo-Russian war in 1807, the war for Finland (the Finnish War) was fought, and by 1809, Finland finally became part of the Russian Empire and was known as a Grand Duchy.  Over the next hundred years, Finland remained Russian but kept an autonomous nature.  In 1906, the Grand Duchy of Finland adopted laws of suffrage in an attempt to control their own destiny, but the strength of the Russian Empire made self-determination quite difficult.  With the 1917 revolution, the Finns found a opportunity where they could break away from mother Russia, and by Jan 1918, they split from both Red and White forces to become their own nation.

In the game, start the game with Finland as a minor-aligned territory with Russia, BUT already controlled.  Place a Russian control marker at start in Finland.  When the Russian revolution occurs, treat Finland as any other non-original territory where any Russian units would be disbanded.

That’s an interesting proposition. I’ll have to try it sometime and see what I think of it.
