Arnold’s Tory wife undoubtedly played a role in his defection to the British (e.g., she put him in contact with her friend British Major Andre). However, the stage was set before this by ingrates in the Army and Continental Congress. Arnold dedicated his health and much of his own wealth to the American cause. He captured Fort Ticonderoga and its many cannons early in the Revolution. The next year in 1776, his brilliant defensive tactics in the Battle of Valcour Island (Lake Champlain) delayed the British attack from Canada on New York State for a year. He also distinguished himself in the Battle of Ridgefield (CN) and the Battle of Saratoga (NY). In the latter, his daring and bravery were probably instrumental in .this major American victory–for which the passive and petty General Horatio Gage took credit. The Continental Congress passed over his promotion because of a quota system, not merit. Rival officers instigated his court martial. The movie “Benedict Arnold: Hero Betrayed” presents an interesting and balanced alternative perspective on Arnold. It is offensive for Trulpen to identify himself with Arnold, because the former’s motives are in a whole different class than those of the latter.

FYI I didn’t identify myself with BA, but Andrew did.

You signed your reply to Andrew about 22 hours ago: “Yours truly, Benedict Arnold.”

EXCELLENT summary of Benedict Arnold! I couldn’t agree more. While I am sure his wife had an influence it was the lack of respect, recognition and appreciation that led him down the road to treason.
@Soulblighter If you really are interested in a great read, that also details some of Benedict Arnold’s exploits, I highly recommend the Kenneth Roberts series… “Arundel”, “Rabble in Arms” and “Oliver Wiswell”. While Benedict Arnold is not a protagonist in the series his exploits are well covered and it is a great mixture of fiction and non-fiction about the Revolutionary War.

Actually I didn’t. I did not call you a Benedict Arnold. I gave you an example of someone who was remembered for a heinous act he did at the end of his career which is what he is remembered for instead of all the good and amazing things he did during his career.
PS - @gamerman01 Sorry to hijack this thread.

Not a problem, I can still find game results while being schooled

@trulpen I think it would be best if we just finish the game normally. We both took extended breaks for different reasons but if we can finish the game normally and we are both willing and able we should do it. That is the whole point of being here right? To play? Silly titles are even less meaningful if not gained by beating your opponents in the game itself, right? I understand your wanting to play in the final and your health condition and I have a lot of empathy. However you are a fantastic player and have many many victories to prove it and no one is going to think and less of you because you don’t play in this particular final so let’s just keep playing this game and be done with it. Please?

All this hatred is boiling up the ancients, and dusting us off!
Better get solved with honor.
Don’t make us come back!
-
All is calm, you just popped in when someone went missing for a couple of weeks and the opponent wondered if it was OK to claim victory, and then the someone came back and wants to finish his game.
Come back at your own peril!?
-
@gargantua Maybe it’s all been a trick to get you guys to come back.
This all feels a bit surreal to me and I feel like I’m missing something. I don’t want to come off as a douche (my daughters favorite expression, not necc. about me) but… Trulpen said he has cancer and that it’s not going well.
I don’t have an opinion about the playoffs but I’d like to say that I’ve played Trulpen a few times, they were fast-paced and enjoyable games (except for the ass-kicking parts) and I’m very sorry to hear about his condition.
