Cliffside Bunker Battle Dice (UPDATED)

    @Young:

    @C_Strabala:

    Those look AWESOME! I am definitely in the market to by a set or two….

    Quick Question: Will you also offer a 5-hit die for the Jet-Power tech in the 2nd Edition game?

    Unfortunately we don’t have the resources to gamble on a 5th type of dice, we have to order 30,000 just to get the retail cost down to something reasonable. Maybe if we sell out and need a second run, we might look into it… but for now, you will need the regular dice for your jet fighters attacking at 5 or less.

    If it really is a problem, grab a siler sharpie and put a dot on the 5 spot. If you dont like it in the end, it comes off with and alcohol wipe.

  • Or you can use the 1 die and say that misses are actually hits.

    I say that quote all the time… (LOL)

  • Actually, if you look at proper dice, the “1 pip/dot” is drilled deeper than the “six pips/dots” so that all have the same amount of material removed.
    If you look at “chinese” dice, they have a larger “1 pip/dot” to offset the “6 pips/dots”
    The weight difference may be minimal, but it does affect the results.

    This will be apparent when “lightly” rolling dice as compared to a more aggressive fling.

    This is why serious gamers use backgammon or vegas quality dice. It ensures a proper randomness in rolls.

    I don’t think normal dice (such as regular A&A dice) have a 1 pip that’s 6 times as deep as each of the 6 pips.

    I understand the science behind it all, but we are only Axis & Allies players in a basement game room bunker, not craps players at a casino. Besides, Star Wars Rebellion dice are very similar to our dice, and Fantasy Flight holds tournaments for that game all the time.

  • While you guys figure it out Ill be gaming and throwing any kind of die !

  • @Young:

    Thank You

  • There are two distinctions involved here: the one between precision vs. non-precision dice (precision dice being manufactured to high symmetry tolerances and having a completely uniform density on all sides, regardless of the number of pips), and the one between squared and rounded dice (rounded ones having the advantage of causing less potential damage than sharp-edged dice to the surface on which the’re rolled).  Precision backgammon dice have both advantages: they’re precise like square casino dice, but they’re rounded and smaller and thus have a softer impact on the rolling surface.
