Global 1942 (Revised)

  • Please make sure to use only parts of the Official 1942 released by Larry Harris [Turn Order and States of War]

The year is 1942, the German Reich stands defeated at Stalingrad, and is about to face a massive counterattack by Soviet forces. Across the Atlantic, the German campaign is facing critical strategical decisions, in the hopes of buying time against possible Western Allies invasion. Rommel continues to push into Egypt, but will need his Italian allies to capture Cairo and destroy the British. The Italian Empire itself finds it’s naval presence is about to diminish, unless somehow the Germans can turn the tide in the Mediterranean. On the other side of the world, the Empire of Japan has been utterly weakened at Midway, having lost some of it’s finest naval strength. Japan’s campaign in China is about to resume, as the Japanese will push onward to cut off China’s supply line in Burma. In the south Pacific, the Japanese still face Allied resistance on a few Dutch Islands, preventing Japan, for the moment, to gain new Oil Supplies. In Eurasia, the Soviet Union stands alone against the German Reich, and may find itself soon in a campaign against Japan, forced to choose, abandon the Far East? or attempt to cripple the Japanese presence in Asia? The United Kingdom and ANZAC have had a series of mixed results in South East Asia, North Africa, and the Pacific, and are unable to any longer continue trying to maintain everything without major American assistance. The former French Republic, defeated, is still fighting on to aid her British allies, along with the Polish 303 Fighter Squad. The United States itself will need to face great challenges to cross both the Pacific and the Atlantic, but could also find itself forced to pick between the two theatres. It is now time to decide the course of history, at the most critical moments, are you the Axis, in an attempt to establish new roots of power in Europe and Asia? Or are you the Allies, trying to maintain the Status Quo and bring peace to a ruined world? It is time to command your forces, and march onward to victory!

    Victory Conditions:
Axis: Control 8 European Victory Cities or Control 6 Pacific Victory Cities, either one for a Complete Round of Play following the capture of the last necessary Victory City
Allies: Control 3 of [Berlin, Tokyo, Rome, Paris, Shanghai, Warsaw, and Manila] for a Complete Round of Play following the capture of the last necessary Victory City

Setup seems to be quite balanced and bit more active than 1940, based on 37 games.

    @RetroFuhrerMeister:

The year is 1942, the German Reich stands defeated at Stalingrad, and is about to face massive counterattack by Soviet forces. Across the Atlantic, the German campaign is facing a critical strategic decisions, in the hopes of buying time against possible Western Allies invasion. Rommel continues to push into Africa, but will need his Italian allies to capture Cairo. Italy itself finds it’s naval presence about to diminish, unless somehow the Germans can turn the tide in the Mediterranean. On the other side of the world, Japan has been utterly weakened at Midway, having lost some of it’s finest naval strength. Japan’s campaign in China is about to resume, as the Japanese will push onward to cut off China’s supply line in Burma.

Regarding the introductory paragraph, I’m a bit unsure about what part of 1942 the game set-up is supposed to be in.  The paragraph mentions that Japan has lost much of its naval strength at Midway, so this means a starting date after June 7, 1942.  The Battle of Stalingrad, however, didn’t start until late August 1942; the Russians launched their double envelopment of the city in mid-November (which is perhaps what you’re referring to by “face massive counterattack by Soviet forces”).  As for China’s supply line to Burma, the Burma Road, it was actually cut several weeks before the Battle of Midway, on April 29, when the Japanese captured Lashio.

The setup itself has no set date, merely it’s reflecting different events during the year 1942, some stuff that happened in the earlier months occur at the same time during the game along with events that happened in the final months of the year. Also some ahistorical stuff like a large portion of the Red Army still in the Far East or a potential Japanese attack against the Soviet Union.

  • Alright, while I seem to be unable to produce a working game file for it, I have a save file at least that you guys can use, however it is only for 1.9+

I might need people to test this out, while we have played a few games of it, I would love additional opinions and balance-checks from other people, preferably those more experienced than myself.

File is attached to this post.

  • I always admire anyone who takes on the task of creating a whole new setup, I look forward to taking a closer look after the FMG convention.

Looking forward to a possible FMG video! And I appreciate the admiration.

  • Because of the inability for the Allies to realistically achieve victory in a single sitting, I am updating the original post to include new victory conditions.

EDIT: Gave certain nations an altered name, also the introductory is altered, the only thing important for you guys to know, is that there is a possibility of the setup being altered.

It appears that you provided the file while the forum had issues with savegames.
This is why TripleA gives an error message when loading this file (that downloads with filesize ‘0’).

    Please see:
    http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=38443.0

    Please provide the savegame again.

As there might have been 1.9-prerelease-compatibility issues as well as a change of map management during development
please use the latest (pre-) release and better re-download the map with the ingame dowloader.
(Just in case you have not followed the development and map adjustment process “release by release”).

    HTH 🙂

  • Setup Changes were made for Balance. Slightly tougher Germany, more USSR options in Far East, Japan now actually sweats in the Pacific (Can’t do everything anymore), and I have weaken the United States’ options in Europe for the early game a little (To encourage going after Japan a bit), lastly, to give France an extra ship (Possibly) to work with. Please see the original post.

    I hope you’ll enjoy. 😄

Now your (new) savegame file downloads correctly.

But - it is no longer compatible with the latest 1.9-prerelease/release candidate and map version.

Please reread my above posting for solving this.

    Thank you  🙂

Edit: The latest (release candidate) TripleA-version - as of writing this - is 1.9.0.0.3160.
