There is a mythical Japanese strategy out there that has yet to be discovered. It involves Japan putting equal amounts of pressure on Russia and the US with the idea that Germany would have some relief from the US but would face more pressure from Russia.

Anybody want to move to New Jersey, become a US Senator, accept bribes, only have to give the non-financial gifts back, and get a slap on the wrist from the US Senate, while the dude who bribes you has to serve time in prison? Reminds me of the good old days back in Chappaquidic(sp.?). Sorry, just got a little nostalgic.

At the same time, consider that the first-turn fighter gives you an “early” defensive bonus.

But the Allies do not need an early defensive purchase. If played right the Germans should not be able to take Karelia until turn 5 or 6 at the earliest, and this is without fighter purchases. So considering this longterm reality the shorterm is of no consequence. In my experience the Allies win by limiting/reducing Germany’s ipc level and then reducing their income. With this in mind I’d say a bomber or a carrier is always a better purchase because of their obvious uses.

It’s much more effective and timely to put the pressure on Germany through the well-known troop ferry, eventually crashing into WEu, or sending a transport to harrass/reclaim Afrika. A KJF strategy can work, but only with substantial coordination, and is more risky. (but that’s the fun of the game)

Well, at least send the bomber to help the troops in Algeria. That will drastically increase your chances of success.

From the sounds of it, most folks are using a newer PC version of A&A.  For those using the Hasbro version, a few glitches you should be aware of.

1.  Computer playing Germany invariably invades Egypt with Libya tank/INF AND transported INF from Southern.  IF the UK sub sinks the transport, ALL 3 GERMAN INF disapear, leaving only the tank to fight in Egypt.

2.  Computer playing Russia, if Germany has land forces in Caucuses and Russia holds Karelia, the combined Karelia/Russia AA will kill TWICE as many aircraft (and ALWAYS the bomber) as they should if German AF is used to support an attack on Russia in G2.  I have tried this move on MANY occasions with up to 4 figs and a bomber supporting 2 INF against a lightly defended Russia.  I end up with 1 or 2 figs left (usually 1), regardless of the number of aircraft sent.

3.  Carrier aircraft recovery.  If you “forget” to land any fighters in the non-combat phase and click “done”, and then try to land airborn fighters on a carrier when the PC prompts you that you have to land aircraft, any and all fighters designated to land on carriers will CRASH and be lost.  Only solution is to “time machine” back to non-combat phase and re-do ALL non-combat moves and land fighters before clicking “done”

Occassionally you will meet an inexperienced British player (hint, hint TM 😉), but for the most part UK will send 2 ftrs and 1 bomber on it’s following turn. With those odds it’s bye-bye to the Bismarck and any of the Kreigsmarine.

US carrier on A1 is bad imo. I am a huge fan of the all inf build or 1 transport and rest inf on A1. This is because you can place your inf on the west coast and move them to wcan and on t3 you ship them all to europe and keep your shuck shuck optimal
