Iowa’s faster and outranges the, hypothetically (not including fire control) Iowa can take out a ton before it runs out of ammunition.
If they’re fighting close Iowa losing to 8 pre dreadnoughts with 14 inchers sounds right. 👍
I don’t remember us ever discussing Torpedo boats. What is your favorite?
For me it’s the American PT boat, simply because I know very little about the others by comparison. Anyone interested in the subject might want to check out the 1945 movie They Were Expendable, with Robert Montgomery and John Wayne. It’s a fictionalized version of the story of the PT squadron commanded by John Bulkeley and Robert Kelly (the ones who got MacArthur off the Philippines), but historical inaccuracies notwithstanding it’s a well-told tale.
Sorry Worsham, I am totally ignorant of them.
I did make a model of one as a child, but can’t tell you whose it was!
LOL I made a PT-109 model as a kid too!
PT-109 baby! There is no such thing as any other PT boats…
Italian Torpedo boats claimed the largest warship sunk by light crafts in WW2, the HMS Pathfinder, sunk in the epic Operation Pedestal.
The Italian ones are new to me, only because they were never discussed. However there are plenty of records of the ones in action during the Phillipines and South Pacific Campaigns (JFK, etc.) which gave them plenty of heroic press.
