And when you consider how all the other units, tanks, fighters, bombers, and infantry are all their own scales, having consistency in class seems to make the most sense. At least to me. Even if units are the same size in real life, as you said, its easier for non-historians/enthusiasts to pick up the game if unit type x is scale size x.
Maybe if this was just a naval game or a land war game, then all units could be the same scale. As 3D printing becomes more common, I was interested in hearing how others approached this.

––Since I received my 1st Shapeways unit and was extremely impressed with it, I’m planning on orderring some more.
––Thus it becomes very important to know the CORRECT Scale/Proportions of all of the
A&A UNIT TYPES. I recall, but cannot find again, an excellent discusion here on A&A.Org about a year or so ago concerned with this same topic.
----I would very much appreciate the help of the A&A unit producers(HBG, FMG), military modellers, and miniature gamers concerning the CORRECT Scale/Proportion of all of the different A&A UNIT TYPES. Such as:Extremely Large Ships (Super BBs)…
Large Ships (Light/Escort CVs)…
Ships (DD Destroyers)…
Smaller Ships (LSTs)…
Large Aircraft (B-17s)…1/700
Tac. Bomber (SBDs)……1/600
Fighter (P-51s)……1/500
Tanks……
Heavy Tanks…
Infantry…
Artillery…----There may be more or less different proportions for the above UNIT TYPES but I would appreciate any knowledgeable opinions before I start ordering some already designed Shapeway units. They MUST be in the SAME SIZE as the existing A&A units for me to be happy. Thanks in advance for any help.

––1/600 was the perfect proportion for the A-20 Havocs I just received. It should also work for Tactical Bombers like SBDs. I’ll post some A-20 pics for size comparison soon.

I’ve updated the approximates sizes/scales for some basic and alternate units. Keep in mind that many classes of ship and aircraft, though in the same class, varied in size so my sizes will be off on some units. If your like me I want to be able to visually distinguish between units quickly so keeping classes similar in size I find works the best. Below is my guide/attempt to standardize my pieces where they are relatively the same size for their respective class. I’ve added some alternative classes that I use in my games and ties in some of the alternate pieces that HBG is putting out. If you need something scaled and not sure how to do it let me know and I’ll do my best to help.
Carrier 6.5 cm 1/3700
Light/Escort Carrier 5cm 1/3100
Battleship 6 cm 1/4000
Cruiser 5.5 cm 1/3700
Light Cruiser 5 cm 1/3400
Destroyer 4.8 cm 1/2400(cm is for the wingspan)
Heavy Bomber 4.7 cm 1/700
Medium Bomber 3.5 cm 1/600
Light Bomber 1.7 cm 1/600
Heavy Fighter (Twin engine) 2.8 cm 1/600
Fighter 2.2 cm 1/500
