Scale of the Axis & Allies Board game sculpts?

Just to let people know - I have created several sets of maps and new rules for use with the AAM 1.0 minis. I will post more on this and the Variant Rules forum when they are ready.

The first sets will be for North Africa and War in Europe Sets. Maps for Pacific Theatre and Alpine are also in the works. So you wont have to pitch all of your minis. There is a use for them, and even WTF or Cando minis can be mixed with them.

I have also created new rules and 400 new unit cards for Italy, Japan, Finland, France, England, and of course German and American.

It’s kinda hard to answer your question because it depends on how much you are willing to spend, do you want to play historically, do you only want to collect one type of fleet?  I would say that it would be hard to win many games if you go German and then play against someone who is bringing an American fleet.  I say this because the Germans (and let’s add the Italians, French, Australian, and even to some extent the British) are so underpowered in the way of air power that I think you would lose every time.  If you play historically and avoid any kind of cheesy fleet combinations…well, you might have a chance.  In my opinion, and that’s all it is, you’d be hard pressed to beat an American fleet in a 150pt or higher game.  At that point level you can bring a battleship, two carriers and enough planes to destroy whatever your opponent is bringing…only a Japanese fleet with multiple Yamatos might stand a chance against an equal point American fleet.  Let’s say you collect only a German fleet…how would you stop my air power?  I’d have all your ships sunk before you made it within striking distance.  Maybe I’m full of crap, but, I’d say go American if you want the most balance and options.  Maybe the second set of WaS will have more air support for the Germans and the other Axis powers (Japan not included) but as it stands now…they’d get crushed.  I don’t think that would be much fun for you.

I’ve found that past 300 points the games all run around the same amount of time. I think it might have something to do with the fact that the game starts wrapping up at turn 7 regardless… otherwise, I dunno. But the 350 and 450 point games all ran the same amount of time as the 3 hour game: 3 1/2 hours. Which was way too long. Hehhehe. Usually the standard 200 point games we play last around 2 hours, or a little bit more if there’s a rules hitch or joking around instead of playing.

For 8 more points, instead of a Tiger I, you can use a King Tiger.  It doesnt dwarf the Tiger I, but it looks scary on the battlefield and the stats are scary too, so id use it for psychological warfare.  You know……make them crap their pants.  :lol:

I totally disagree about the quality of the FOW miniatures

I didnt say they were bad miniatures, only that they are a total rip off like AA miniatures. If you keep the scale with 1/285 you get those horrible blobs made by GHQ that are way to small for a decent aesthetic. Also the AA minis are not really in scale either. The soldiers seem too tall compared with say the tiger tank. FOW is in true scale but a total ripoff. AA is a smaller rip off, because they create this “collectible” crap with having some pieces made in less quantities than others. The solution is allways to go down in scale and deal with companies that can sell you what you want without resorting to “Ebay”
The secondary importance is clear when you realize that the 1/285 scale is the same size as your regular AA ground pieces (well tanks and artillery). While the necessary detraction is having 1/72 scale infantry which are large rthan the tanks.

With Set II coming out you’ll be able to field and effective Soviet team and Japanese team. There are a couple of new Japanese tanks that are pretty good.

You might even be able to put together a Chinese team but you might have to amek a house rule that allows more than 15 units per team or play 80 pts. or something. Those 2pt soldiers don’t really fill out the points very well.
