Saving One Lost Artifact from a Past War

A poll inspired by the “29th May 1453: Constantinople falls” thread.

The Ark of the Covenant.

It’s not destroyed Gar it still exists.
But nice choice anyway. -

Raiders of the Lost Ark notwithstanding, my guess would be that it was destroyed during the Siege of Jerusalem in 587 BC, so Garg’s answer would qualify. But I freely admit that I know a lot less about Biblical artifacts than Indiana Jones does.

@rjpeters70:
Library of Alexandria.
I second this. This held a lot of the world’s knowledge at the time and the loss was catastrophic.

Who needs the “world’s knowledge” when you can have a device that was used to summon god!

The library of Baghdad. Though I agree that the library of Alexandria is an excellent choice.

I can’t think of one item, but I suppose I wish there was more left of Carthage(nasty Romans).
Maybe the birthplace of Hannibal: a house to visit, a market place to see where he would have wandered or somewhere he may have trained. Something personal to him. Not many busts remain of him: I can picture one, but would like more of an idea of what he looked like.I will choose the house in which he grew up.

The Czars Palace of Amber which disappeared would be awesome.

Dang! Alexandria was mine I thought. I guess the Bizmarck or a functioning Horton Flying Wing.

If you visit Kathrinenpalace in St. Petersburg you´ll see a copy of the Bernsteinzimmer wich many people declare as the 8th wonder of the world.
About the Original :
Prussia King Friedrich I. ordered to built/create the Bernsteinzimmer, a room made only by amber mosaiqes as a gift to his wife Sophie Charlott. 1716 Friedrich Wilhelm I. gave it as a special gift to Czar Peter the Great who loved it.
It was in Russia for over 200 yrs.
The Wehrmacht found it and put it into 27 boxes to transport it back to Königsberg (East Prussia now Poland)Then it dissapeared and many Theories are surround it.
Some say it was bombed, some claim it it somewhere burried.
If you find it today you will be rich. 130.000 € till 250.000 € worth.
BUT, of course complete and intact!! -
Thank you Aequitas. Had no idea.

It would be cool to save a greek fire thrower from back in the day.
The fire was said to burn on water.
-
I saw somewhere that the Ark of the covennant is in ethopia.
