11. Now it is the Allied turn. The same procedure is followed as before. The defending CAP fighter shoots at the incoming planes, and they get to fire back.

12. The Japanese CAP fighter misses, but the Allied planes shoot it down.

13. Both planes select the same carrier group to go after. The ships miss their AA fire, so the planes are free to attack.

14. Both planes score a hit on the carrier and it is sunk. Planes must now return home.

15. Planes on both sides must land on their carriers. The US plane lost its carrier, and so must ditch at sea (destroyed). Both sides may reshuffle the composition of their groups. At this point, the Japanese player decides if they wish to retreat, and they choose to continue the battle instead. The Allies, however, choose to retreat, The Allied ships return to port and the Japanese fleet continues on its original mission.

It absolutely can work, and work well.

Robert Otto created one in May 2022 called Total Civil War 1861-1865 and had it produced in limited quantities as a full boxed set … but at $350 a copy it was expensive (though considering only about 50 … maybe 100 … were printed, it makes sense to me (as a publisher)).

Unfortunately I don’t think he plans on doing it again and the website he had for taking orders is no longer available.

As for why it wasn’t released by MB/Wizards/Et.al. is probably because of a lower demand (even if only perceived) vs other projects. They also pretty much abandoned anything new or novel for the line quite a long time ago and just updated or tweaked and rehashed everything repeatedly. Their last great ‘innovation’ was A&A Zombies. Now that it’s in the hands of Renegade Games, who knows; they’re more open to new games.

Well, I didn’t get the traders and barbarians expansion pack. My birthday has come and gone so I’m super sorry. I was not expecting the present I got, soooooo I didn’t get it. I’m sooooooo soooooooorrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyy! :cry: :cry: :cry:

I know it’s really different by my wife picked up the USA trails to rails spin-off. We havent played it but if it’s as good as it looks well probably pick up the merchant’s of Europe game too. There is anothoer game in the series but I think it’s OOP that is based on Germany.

My first experience playing Catan and it’s expansions was not a good one as I really dislike the people I played it with some initial and it was a bit of a rollover so it left a bad taste in my mouth.

That said I saw an expansion that made me want to give it another go that involves sea exploration and combat.
