That line might work on the ladies, but I am not sure you will get many takers here.
Battle of Wakefield fought today in 1460
Today, the 30th December, 1460 was fought a small battle at Wakefield, Yorkshire, in the North of England. It was almost a skirmish, some same an ambush. The Lord Protector, Richard of York, and his 2nd son, Edmund, were killed. The King, Henry VI, was a prisoner. It was the War of the Roses.
Richard’s death would see the return of the rightful, but weak, king. Not an end to the civil war. Two of Richard’s sons would sit on England’s throne and it would be 25 years before Henry’s ancestors would finally sit safely and develop into the Tudor dynasty.
The new head of the York House would prove himself a great medieval prince, winning many battles, the 1st at 18 years of age just 6 weeks later at Mortimer’s Cross(20 miles from me).He finally saw off the Lancastrian threat, by killing Henry’s son, also called Edward, at Tewkesbury, Glos.(been there) in 1471.
When he died in 1483, probably of his excesses, his youngest brother Richard, had his children and rivals murdered to assume the throne. Like his father he died in battle, Bosworth 1485. Many think he would have made a good king.
Richard of York’s legacy was a good one.
Richard, Duke of York WAS the rightful king by decent from Lionel Duke of Clarence.
Henry VI was the grandson of a usurper who set aside the true line to grab the throne for himself.
I agree. I love English history.
His son, Richard III is my favourite English monarch. I love how he saw the Welsh pretender on the field of Bosworth and charged at him, knowing all would be over if he killed him.
Nice to hear from you Flashman.
I see you too are in England.
Check out the Richard III society forum - I’m a regular contributor.
I’ve also done work on several Wars of the Roses games currently available. Unfortunately they always call me in as a firefighter to clean up the historical errors, so my long hoped for Kingmaker update is a long way off.
Are you following the discovery of (probably) Richard’s skeleton in Leicester?
I am following it with considerable interest.
Had heard of that society too, thank you.
What games? Would love to know.
Did some work on this:
The extra cards on BGG are mine as well.
Thank you. I see someone is selling it for £30 in England.
Is it a 2 player game or can you play with more? Is it worth it?
I am more desperate for an English Civil War game.
Also if I bought it, I would not play it with anyone. Just read the rules and set it up!
I buy my games on the net from Infinity in Wales.
I do not buy from US after I got screwed with Import Taxes!
Otherwise I would buy so many HBG items.
Wouldn’t recommend with more than two, though there are rules to divide up your command.
