Anyone though much about a game for this era; my suggested start date would be 1872 because of:

1865 United States reunification = great power
    1867 USA purchases Alaska
1867 Meiji era in Japan begins = great power
1867 Union of Austria & Hungary = great power
    1869 Suez canal completed
1870 Italian unification = great power
1871 Rome becomes capital of Italy
1871 German unification = great power

Game would feature great power rivalries leading up to WWI; so the GPs wouldn’t be allowed to attack each other’s home tt directly - the fights would be over colonies and protectorates. Therefore, most European powers would only need to be one tt.

    Pieces?

Some new infantry (depends on WWI models)

    Some new cavalry (ditto)

    WWI artillery pieces usable?

    early era ironclad battleships

I would say 3 levels of civilizations:

    1. Great Powers (can produce modern weapons) Europe, N. America, poss Japan

    2. Islamic World, China, Latin America (cavalry and art)

    3. “Third World” Africa, Oceania (inf only)

I own ‘War! Age Of Imperialism’ by Eagle Games, and it is excellent.  :-)

I have the game too.  I’ve never played it but the rifleman sculpts with pith helmets make nice A&A colonial infantry units; their size fits well with the A&A troop pieces, and their level of detail is pretty good.  You can separately buy units in additional colours to supplement the ones that come with the game.

Yes, I have the game too, I just there might be interest in a less abstract A&A version.

  • Would this also be a economic/resource management game?
