The following is a special request from Koba’s Global '39 playgroup.

Would it be at all possible for HBG to produce a 3D U-boat pen marker and the rules to go with it?

Sub pens are pretty plain from the top.
We could make a small marker so not to use to much room.
Subs in the same sea zone could be not affected by destroyers or aircraft, as in no shot against them.

    Sounds good.

    Any AA capacity?

    By the way,

    thanks Coach.

    Ok Coach, I’m sold.

    Thanks again.

  • sub pens:

offer protection for only subs from naval or normal air attacks.

In the air they are just like NB or AB in terms of damage. Max 6 damage by SBR. Planes cannot damage the subs except by SBR.

    Cost: 12-15 IPC

They could also reduce the cost of subs by 1 IPC.

OR, be like a “allow subs to scramble” into the seazone kind of device.

  • If you built a sub pen (like off the coast of France) would you be able to build subs from it w/o an IC, or would it just be someplace to keep them safe??

  • Sub Pens: ( based on good ideas)

    Cost: 15

    1. Offer protection for only subs from naval or normal air attacks.

    2. Can be damaged only by SBR or capturing the attached territory. They are just like NB or AB in terms of damage. Max 6 damage by SBR.

    3. Subs can scramble ( up to three based on no damage) into adjacent sea zone at any time if enemy surface ships enter it.

    4. Built in AA guns just like Factories ( 1 shot at each bomber)

    5. Newly built submarines can be placed at Sub Pens ( up to 3 as long as Pen is undamaged) even if the attached land area does not have a factory.

Note: If the attached land area is captured in combat, the Sub Pen is considered wrecked ( at full 6 damage) and must be restored before use.

  • Sub Pens were in the World at War Expansion for the Original Version of A&A. I beleive they cost 6 IPC and were3 built in one turn. I found the final updated rules that applied;
    http://xenogamesforums.yuku.com/topic/852/World-at-War-3-2
    6.11 Sub Pens:

    a) Moving into/out of a sub pen: For movement purposes sub pens are considered a part of the sea zone they are built in, and do not require a movement point to enter, leave, etc. For all other purposes, sub pens are considered a separate sea zone/coastal area unto themselves.

    b) A sub pen (and the subs within) can only be attacked by aircraft (follow 6.11 rules).

    c) Any other friendly or enemy ships have no effect on attacking, defending, etc with regards to the sub pen.
Example: Germany has a sub pen with 2 subs in it on France, and a cruiser (all in the same sea zone). Britain decides to attack the sea zone with 2 battleships and a sub. Britain can only attack the cruiser since sub pens (and the subs within) cannot be attacked by ships. Germany defends with only the cruiser (the subs in the pen cannot assist).

    d) If the land area a sub pen is adjacent to is conquered by enemy forces, the sub pen is immediately destroyed.

    e) Sub pens fire each round, like an AA gun hitting on a 2 or less, against aircraft only. A Sub pen can hold up to 2 submarines.
