Good answer by Marshmallow.  I remember wondering the same thing when G40 was new, but Krieghund* set me straight.  Dizzkneeland is correct that you can still disable an air base and then attack the adjacent sea zone free from scrambled aircraft, but it must be on separate powers’ turns.  Marshmallow said it perfectly, that the scramble decision is made at the beginning of the conduct combat phase, so the aircraft are scrambled before the base is bombed.

I like to find ideas and optimized them inside specific guidelines.
These last one was invented while writing on it, never know that something that I found also interesting could come out of it!

However, it needs someone like you to come with the big picture and completely outside the box ideas.

G42 is an A&A Global scenario, there hasn’t been any indication from Larry or his team that this rule set is compatible with the single 1940 theater games. If you find out otherwise, please share in the Global forum with any clarifications. G42 was created to shorten games during tournament play, dot sure if that lead is useful, but you can also ask at harrisgamedesign.com

If it’s just about the turn order, you can simply house rule it, or revert to the 2nd edition sequence… play a few times and see what works best would be my advice.

You can certainly do this in a face to face game- play the two separate boards together-
Germany and Japan go at the same time (With Russia in between- have to respect turn order, but Japan may not be at war with Russia)
Then the UK/China/USA goes
Then Italy/ANZAC/France

Then start over.  Of course this only works with 3-4 players so you can have people going at the same time.

More just trying to give more freedom to the players really.  I just don’t want to HAVE to do this battle on one side of the globe because it is one one type before I can do THAT battle on the other side of the globe.

This would effectively remove this while still forcing SBR to go before actual combat.  I think.

Question: Will Italy be able to compete going 8th? Now that USA goes 4th Rome is that much more at risk. Germany has to take Southern France and fill the Med with Naval units to have any hope of stopping Rome from falling.
