High resolution (vector graphics possibly) Axis & Allies Map (2nd edition style)

The one you will find in stores now, made by Avalon Hill is the revised map, with some rule changes.  Arguably, a more difficult game due to additional pieces, more territories, and greater options for strategies, etc.

The older version (the Milton Bradley one) is the classic, and has a nice sized game board.  If you have never played before, the older version is easier to learn on.

Personally, I am just hoping for a PC version of Revised and the D-Day/Pacific variants with some really good AI in the near future :-)

Thanks for all the great responses. I can see that storage options for the pieces are high on everyone’s list, followed closely by greater denominations for tokens.

It’s a shame that tooling custom plastic pieces is so complicated (and costly). I would love to include snapping boxes (like RISK used to have).

I thought was an interesting observation about the similarity in the brown pieces. I’ve never encountered any confusion, but I can see how it could happen.

(dezrtfish, I know what you mean about storage options. For AH’s ASL, I keep my pieces in hundreds of film canisters that I got from a giant film processing company in town. They work great…but are too small for A&A. Maybe empty peanut cans or large baby food jars would work.)

Both the US and Brit have their fleet parked in the UK home waters ASAP, everything going to Norway, no second load to Africa. At some point, maybe T2-T3 you will have to drop off a load into Africa, both allies move their fleets south 1 space. Time the builds so yes, you put tanks in Africa than can move towards Persia fast. A few infantry as you might fight a bit. Having a few slow units moving East is OK, they are ‘safties’ and will be used sooner or later. That being said don’t put more than you need in Africa.

The reason for a few tanks is this mainly for harassment against the Japanese. It is so so important to have 1-2 tanks and 1-2 inf for each ally in asia. With airpower this small force welds a great deal of ‘leverage’. One ally ‘kicks the door in’ and the other ally pours through so to speak. The Jap player must spend time to consider how a 3 member allied force opens up possiblities. 1 ally slips into the territory so the others come in and land ftrs. All of sudden the Jap player is concerned about defending factories. Huge Jap stacks of land units can have their path blocked by a single allied player letting the others come in behind.

Guest: Your friend could probably be refering to some of the expantion packs. I have tried two different packs. Both with new kinds of boats. Half-battleships, escorts, and destroyers. Could be more, i dont remember.

Ha, in A&A, I took over Russia with Germany on the second turn! Ending up EV winning on the 4th, since the Japanese (AI controlled) player couldn’t figure how to attack on the first turn.
