I’m curious, how was the game? Did you enjoy it?
Why is the map so distorted?

I had a look at the pictures, courtesy of Djensen:
http://www.axisandallies.org/p/axis-and-allies-1941-contents-of-the-box/And one thing really stood out for me. Why is the map so distorted?
The northern part of the north hemisphere is enlarged to an extreme degree. Except that it is not constant in any way.
Compare Alaska to Greenland for example, or Alaska to Scandinavia. While the south part of the southern hemisphere is shrunk and downsized. But again, it is not constant. India is shrunk to an incredible degree, while Saudi Arabia seems to have gotten bigger, despite them being at the same parallel.
South America has some weird tilt going on, making it look drunk.
Africa looks completely wrong. As if we were looking at Africa through some sort of distorting mirror at a circus.
China has been squeezed vertically, and does not look even remotely close to what China really looks like. The whole Asian coast line is completely F-ed up beyond recognition.
The Balkans seems to have fattened up as well, for no apparent reason since the other territories surrounding it don’t seem to have changed size that much.
In short, the map is incredibly ugly.
Why can’t they just use a Robinson projection, or something similar to that?

Yep, it’s a long way from perfect. I think the main reason they skew the maps so much is because some areas have more going on in them than others. That’s why the Europe area will always be much enlarged compared to, say, S. America. I guess it’s something we’re all pretty much used to by now. Doesn’t both me so much anymore.

In the baltic shouldnt the German border be closer to Leningrad?
Also the USA income has been calculated wrongly on the map it should be 17 not 15.

borders in the game rarely align with actual borders.
Regarding US income, this has been noted and is likely a misprint (unfortunate, as it is unlikely to be corrected) - however it’s possible that china and philippines have alternate rules that we’re as of yet unaware of. Otherwise, this is exactly why the incomes shouldn’t be printed on the board

There is another issue with the map/game, I’m a little reticent to mention it but if you read the comments on the blog, it’s there in the open.
On the National Production track, USA is listed as 15. On the map, USA controls 17 IPCs. The rules … well you guys know the rules for A&A.
