Wheatbeer (axis) vs vance (allies) G40 A3

    You’re welcome, and likewise.

  • I think that game showed that Neutral Blocks gave the axis quite an advantage.  In this case, a so-so player playing against a better player was able to delay the inevitable defeat for quite long while.  I was able to make Europe into pretty much a fortress and eventually USSR might fall, but perhaps not before USA could outspend Germany, especially once they got South America and took back Africa and the middle east.  More importantly, I thought that Neutral Blocks made the game more fun - being able to go down through the middle east give the axis a third option: West (sea lion), East (barbarossa), or South (middle east).

Wheatbeer, would you be interested in trying another Delta game (either as axis or allies) but with the axis side doing the sea lion?  Just maybe a few rounds to see to see any effects of gov in exile?  How long before UK is liberated?  Does Canada building fleet allow US to spend more in the Pacific?

Personally I really do not enjoy sea lion games, and I would hope that maybe the gov in exile rule can deter people from always doing it.  Maybe if they did it some of the time it would be OK, but there are some folks who just do it as a formula every friggin’ time and that’s no fun for anyone.  When they do that they are not really playing the game, but just executing a predetermined series of builds and moves, and that forces the opponent to do likewise and to me that’s just a big waste of time.  I would rather play the game and lose.

I agree that neutral blocks gives the Axis an advantage.  But while the extra Mid-east money is nice, it can spread out Germany and make it hard to amass enough force to take and, more importantly, hold Soviet territory.  In this game the USSR was able to get men where they were needed faster than Germany.  If Germany hadn’t lost it’s fleet it could have saved Scandinavia and kept a sub in SZ125 (those IPCs add up fast, by the time turn 12 rolled around, the Soviets collected over 100 IPCs from just Finland, Norway, Sweden, and NOs all while weakening the German economy).

I may not have time to open an additional new game.  Currently I have 2 active open games and a third I already agreed too.

I don’t think government in exile would significantly deter Sea Lion (unless maybe African ICs and income apply).  Canadian money won’t build anything that threatens the Axis for many turns.

I don’t usually go for London unless the Allies leave it so under-defended that I can take it cheap, so others may disagree about gov. in exile’s potential impact.

Hey Vance, I still have 3 open games, but they’ve slowed down quite a bit.  Any chance you feel like starting a new Alpha 3 latest setup game? (we can bid or roll for sides unless you have a strong preference)

  • Most definitely Wheatbeer!  if you want a league game we are supposed to bid for it, but if its just a regular game you can have either side you like.  If you want a league game then I bid -5

  • '17

Cool.  I don’t know anything about league play, but I would probably be okay with that.

If you win the bid that means you play as Axis and the Allies gain 5 IPC?  If so, do the Allies have to spend all of it on units or can they keep some as just IPC to add to a nation’s starting income?

  • i think the only diffference with a “league” game is its in the League forum and i guess somebody add up how many each person won or lost for the year.

The bid is for Axis.  So if you accept my bid of -5 then I get axis and you get to spend an extra $5 however you like.  If the bid were +5 then I would be axis and I would get the extra $5.

If you want axis and you are willing to give me more than $5 for playing allies, then you would bid something less then -5 (so -7 or whatever)

I’ll counter with a bid of negative 6 then.

(Alpha 3.9, +tech? or no tech? btw)

    I would rather no tech.

  • '17

No problem, I almost never roll tech dice.

  • OK and I accept your -6.  I will take 1 UK sub added to z106.  You can post your G1!

Hope its a fun game  :-D

  • OK good luck!
