• My VFRs can be used 2 ways
    (Note this is for gobal 1940)
    1: Every contrys starting armys are designated as veteran

    2: Every contrys starting armys are designated as veteran AND unit thats fight in 3 battles that last 3 or more rounds become veteran in the 3rd

    Land units
    All infantry can now with draw from defence and attack at a 2(can’t be artillery supported).
    All artillery can now with draw from defence and they get to pick there hits on a roll of a 1.
    All Mechanized Inf can now with draw from defence, may blitz without a tank, they me do a breck through* on a 1:1 bases of tanks to mech and attack on a 2(Can’t be artillery supported).
    All Tanks can now with draw from defence, they may do breck throughs* and  pick there target on a roll of a 1.

    • breck throughs may happen if you take out the defenders force in 1 round of combat. you then may take all taks and an equel number of mech and attack another enemy teritory. max of to brech throughs per unit per turn. if a unit does 2 breck troughs it loses 1 attack and defence for a round.

    Air
    All Fighters can now with draw from defence, get +1 Atk & Def in stratigect bombing raids and can land on a veteran damaged carrier.
    All Tactical Bmrs can now with draw from defence, may pick there targets in the first roung of combat and can land on a veteran damaged carrier.
    All Bombers can now with draw from defence, get +1 defence in stratigec bombing raids and can land on a veteran carrier(but not on a damaged one) taking every aircraft slot up.

    Sea
    All Transports can now with draw from defence if escorted by another surface vessel 1:1000000000 (Surface warships to transports).
    All Subs can now with draw from defence evan if a destroyers present, convoy raid convoy boxs and a 3(4 if germanys uboat interdiction rules in efect) or at a 1(2 if germanys uboat interdiction rules in efect) in agacent sea zones and still get to shot opening fire stage.
    All destroyers can now with draw from defence and stop vetern subs from with drawing and shoting in the opening fire stage.
    All Cruisers can now with draw from defence and stop normal subs abilitys.
    All Carriers can now with draw from defence, carry veteran fighters and tac bmrs when damaged, veteran bombers when not damaged and gets an AA shot at a 1 befroe combat.
    All Battleships can now with draw from defence, bombard when damaged and gets 1 AA shot at a 1 before combat.

    Note 1 in these rule normal battle ships dont bombard when damaged.
    Note 2 you have to wait 1 roung of combat before withdrawing.
    Note 3 mark units who survive 1 battle 2 battles and Vets diffrently then normal troops ie with markers or other peices.


  • I like your vet rules alot. you can also probably use OOB pieces for starting units and FMG pieces for your vet pieces. what do you mean up top by “not global 40”?

    Very interesting veteran rules.  By the way, Inmajor, that’s a good idea using the OOB pieces as regular troops and FMG pieces as veteran.  You could even use chips to represent the battles survived by each piece.  I use white chips for stacking so I could use the grey chips for experience.  1 chip = 1st battle survived, 2 chips = 2nd battle survived then after the 3rd battle, you replace the unit with a veteran unit.

    A couple of questions:
    On damaged veteran carriers, can veteran fighters and tacs also take off from a damaged veteran carrier?
    On veteran transports.  It says all transports can now withdraw from defense if escorted by another vessel.  Is that 1 other vessel PER transport or can a single other vessel escort a whole stack of transports?


  • sorry for late reply ive been at my cottage for last couple of days.

    veteran fighters & tacs can take off on a damaged veteran carrier
    you only need 1 Surface vessel(destroyer, cruiser, battleship or carrier) to escort unlimited veteran transports out of combat.


  • The idea is not bad  but I prefer special unit.
    In 1942 wehrmacht lost around 50% is his veteran.
    Veteran or not, you can be kill.


  • well that can happen I have done some tests with way 2 and found this:
    pros
    Veteran forces are important not to waste
    increases your opptions with parts of your defensive force able to with draw(the veterans)
    increases every units value ie a Vet inf is better to keep alive as opposed to a normal arty
    makes in depth defences important

    cons
    hard to remember
    the board can get cluttered
    slows the game down
