Just wondering: I didnt think you could put troops on a ship and off load on same turn? Or am I misunderstanding? Or is this a new rule, I have the 2007 version with no cruisers
As far as Germany turn one is concerned, I think a lot of players use the battleship to kill the med destroyer and land 2 units in Egypt with the transport from Italy and kill Egypt turn one with one plane from Balkans and 2 units adjacent to Egypt. The one game I didn’t do this, the allies made short work of me…… the med cruiser can be killed with just planes.
You could always do that.
You can retreat from an attack regardless of how many moves your unit has left. It has been that way since Classic. It effectively adds 1 movement for the attackers but defending planes can also move 1 to land on a territory if their carrier has been sunk.
One of the best examples is for G to have a big tank stack on Caucasus and the Allies move a large force to Eastern Europe. You hit EE with units for G and the tanks from WR and afterwards you retreat back to Germany. And all of a sudden Germany gets a lot harder to take by the UK/US.
Take, for example, the not-immediately-obvious Japanese air to Ukraine/West Russia/Caucasus trick.
I recently played a game against my friend, where I was the Axis, and I think that the above move probably won me the game. On G1 I threw pretty much all of the available ground units and fighters at the Caucasus in attempts to capture it… this turned out to be a vital move in crippling the Russian deployment options… later on in the game you only have one “front”/IC to worry about. I also moved 1 or 2 fighters to Norway to harass the various allied ships that were not yet organized into a fleet. On J1 I flew 4 fighters to the Caucasus… later on in the game these fighters are even more valuable becuase they can be used to shore up the holes in your German lines, especially when you are pushing to Moscow. Using this joint J and G strategy, I didn’t even have to devote many of my IPCs to attacking Russia as Japan.
Overall, you definently have to be agressive as the Axis right out of the gate.
Thx very much for your quick answer.
The off/unloading in one movement gibts especially japan and britain more possibilities then in the games we did so far.
The game is so great !!! Can’t believe it took me so long to find it
One thing about translating NA’s from AA50 would be Italy. Without Italy, the NA’s would be in favor of Allies.
If you want to play AA50, use the AA 1942 pieces and IL’s big AA 50 map and download the rules from WotC/AH website.
Not sure about the techs. Paratrooper would wreck havoc as the board is smaller than AA50 and LRA and paratrooper would allow you to reach almost any territory possible.
As for being bland, I would have to disagree, AA 1942 (AAR with AA50 rules) allows for different strategies, (not sure about a bid as it’s still new and people haven’t had enough time to play with it.
Play with it first before modifying.
