I think I have to concede defeat.  I believe Japan has the force to take and hold Hawaii and win for Axis.  None of Japan’s other victory cities could be liberated by the Allies quick enough.

If you would like to play it out to be sure, you can skip to Japan’s turn.

But if Japan simply goes all in on SZ26, the US would need to defeat:

    7 sub, 4 dest, 1 cru, 1 bsh, 8 carriers, 7 fig, 8 tact

    with only:

    7 sub, 5 dest, 4 carrier, 8 fig, 4 tact, 2 strat

Which is a statistically negligible chance.  And that’s the best case scenario.  Japan could probably make impossible for even an attempted liberation of Honolulu by crushing the US fleet and naval blocking.

Thank you for playing, I learned a great deal.  :-)

If you ever want a rematch, let me know.

    Hey Wheatbeer,

I have to agree. I was not even thinking of going after Hawaii for the 6th city until you brought your US Pac fleet to the Atlantic. It seemed like you got a little confused on which direction to take things when the Germans landed on Gib. I was kind of hoping you might take the bait. That naval base in Panama is really handy, but it seemed like it gave you maybe too many options. Sure opened up the Med for the US though. That completely crushed Italy….

I learned a bunch too (first complete game with Global).  I’m probably going to take a little break from play but will definitely go for a rematch with you. You interested in the Allies again or would you want to play the Axis?

And thanks for the game. Enjoyed playing.

I probably over-reacted to Germany.  The US really needed to sack Rome to offset the Pacific NOs.  Originally, I though about a Greek minor IC, but I didn’t have the time, men, and money to seriously have a shot.  As it was, Greece was the only weak spot I could land on.

I have had good luck playing Axis, but clearly I have a lot to work on as Allies.

If you ever want to play again, I’d do either, but I’d probably benefit most from playing Allies again.

It seemed to me if Japan wasn’t running wild, Russia (with that little bit of US help in the Med) was going to be a fairly major problem to Germany/Italy. I’ve started a few games face to face with a few friends playing the allies, on 3 of 4 occasions, Sealion was a success… that seems odd and definitely a flaw in the game. The one time I was successful in holding London, Italy had become incredibly strong to the point of making as much as Germany early on… just plain difficult I think to play the Allies in the new Alpha 2. Curious what others are doing to play the Allies effectively.

I’m not sure what successful Allied players do … though it definitely includes greater investment in the Pacific.

I’m playing another game right now as Allies where (again) I’ve pushed hard at Europe but I might lose a sixth VC in the Pacific before I can sack Berlin or Rome.  And that’s with a reasonably strong UK helping and 3 minor ICs.

I understand why KJF is promoted, but if all 3 Axis powers invade Russia early (without bothering with Sea Lion), Axis wins in Europe before Tokyo falls.  At least, I’ve had Axis success following that strategy.
