Krieghund - a brilliant new idea

  • Giving each power the tech to begin with might be very interesting.

    Another possibilitie would be:

each power has a different list of possible techs that can be developed instead of a common list of 12 techs equal to everybody.

for example: US and Germany could develop atomic bomb (both were trying but  USA was quicker in wwii).

    • Germany could develop a super tank and a super submarine
    • Japan could develop fanatic infantry
      and so on

  • that sounds like Civ5.

  • How about taking the luck out of tech research and replacing it with dedicated amounts of IPCs to be invested per turn? For example, if Germany wants super subs, they can invest 3 ipcs per turn for 4 turns or 10 ipcs per turn for 2 turns. You could tweak these numbers and expand the chart, like maybe 1 ipc per turn for 8 turns would be an option. Also the individual tech being researched would be kept secret and they can invest in any number of techs at a time (or you could restrict it to a certain number).

Maybe you have to pay 10 ipcs per turn for 10 turns or so to get nukes. The effect of the nuclear weapon on the game would have to be adjusted to make whatever amount of money invested in it worth it.

  • Heh, Atom Bombs should cost like $15 a pop or something, the US only had the THREE it manufactured during the ENTIRE war (one at Alamogordo, then the more famous ones at Hiroshima and Nagasaki…).  That way the Heavy Bomber tech still wouldn’t be so ludicrous, AND we could have it do more realistic damage than just rolling a die twice and taking the better result, while still being fair…  (stupid nerf bat, quit removing all the good techs!)

A tech tree with research investment over long periods of time is probably the best idea; many of the techs simply weren’t available at the start of the war, and it wasn’t until later that many of them were even necessary.  I would argue for changing/switching out a lot of the techs as well.

    Heavy tanks (Russia and Germany)
    Spies (steal techs)
Total War Mobilization (Germany and US)
    etc.

  • Let’s see…artillery are 2/2 and cost four, tanks are 3/3 and cost six, so should heavy tanks be 4/4 and cost eight? Or would heavy tanks simply make existing tanks attack at 4 kind of like super subs?

What would total war mobilization do, increase the ipc production of home territories?

Spies…perhaps a country can begin investing in spies once another country has obtained a tech and get the tech for ultimately less time and money than the previous country paid? Say 2/3 the price and number of turns it originally took? Also, how about a way for allied powers (not Russia) to acquire the same tech for even less…like maybe 1/3.

  • Remember the story of Rommel and the 88’s?  The ones he leveled on the Matildas because German anti tank guns of the time were ineffective?

German tanks in 1940, 1941, and most of 42 were not superior to France’s, England’s or the Soviet Union.  Germany just knew how to use them better.  In fact they were worthless in the winter and the 1943 vintage Panther had to copy the 1941 T-34’s armor design.

Should Germany figuring out how to mass their tanks and organize a strike with them and tac bombers be reflected in the game?  With this scale I can see the point.  One step down on a tactical level I vote against it.

  • Where do you get this idea, Maegenstein that Germany is very bad in retreating and counter-attacking? This is what Germany did on the easten front after Kursk. I do think any & all RD attempts, if successful, should be available to any player who obtains them (like the original game rules).

  • Germany was really bad retreating to counter attack simply because Hitler did not permit his generals to retreat.

Rommel asked to retreat from North Africa and Hitler did not permit

In Russia many generals tried to convince Hitler to retreat to better positions and Hitler never allowed.

Inclusive many generals were sentenced to death as traitors because Hitler suspected they were not doing what he wanted (even Rommel was given two options - kill himself or be trieled to death - he chose to kill himself)

  • German tanks were not superior at the begining of the war. But then Tiger was developed by Ferdinand Porche and this was by far the best tank in war.

    **Tech for Germany:

    • Super tanks - your tanks have now special armor - assigne hits as normal. Roll a die for each hit assigned to your tanks - for each 1 rolled the hit is avoided.**

  • @MEGAEINSTEIN:

in WWII there where competitive advantages that the powers had:

    France - ? (running away)

it was too easy, but still made me laugh…
