Our 1942 game with IL map

Hi All,

I am new to the forums, but have been playing Axis for a few years with a best mate.
We started in 2007 with revised, then Spring 42, now SE. We still play Spring '42.

I have my own version of Spring 1942 that I scanned and photoshopped.
It printed really nicely at about 1.5m * 0.75m, so about 50% bigger in both dimensions.
I had it printed professionally and laminated in a matt finish.

That would be my map that somebody else modified…Most of these changes are on the outside of that map and font changes.

They also moved around the circled IPC things and the roundels got changed or re-sized. It also appears they borrowed some other files like IPC chart, etc from another poster.

Map & setup changes:

UK Battleship on SZ13 replaced with a Cruiser UK Destroyer on SZ35 replaced with a Cruiser US Destroyer on SZ10 replaced with a Cruiser J Destroyer on SZ50 replaced with a Cruiser Formosa (J) and Iceland (UK) have been added to the map Western Canada now only borders SZ64 (on Revised it bordered Central US, SZs63 & 55) Central US now borders Eastern Canada and Panama instead of W. Canada and Mexico

It’s really important for the allies that US is in the game. Russia can’t survive long unless Germany is threatened by US/UK to its west, and Japan can have free reign in the Pacific without the US to quell its expansion

My oldest son was both US and Russia and when Russia fell so did his spirits, especially when my uncle, the UK player, was not able to do anything against Germany or Japan. I struck UK and Russia early and often and it was too much for either one to handle. Next time we play I am taking the Allies so I can see if they will try what I did with Germany. They will be in for a surprise since I know what to do with the US and UK to help Russia and defeat Germany.

I remember playing this, but the map is very small: it’s about the same size as one of the panels of Global 40

Tell me about it…. I’ll never understand why they put the IPC counter ON the board… Should’ve been seperate like the oringinal, made more room to make the countries a little bit bigger.

Thats why I’ve recently bought AAP40, next week AAE40! Then you’ve got to worry about the board being too massive and not how small it is haha.

I think the reason they put the ipc tracker on the board is to have less things in the box to intimidate a new player which is what the game is geared towards. Overall it is still a great game and my favorite WWII themed game.

Hahahaha, from that point of view yes I understand. I think the only way to truely understand the game fully is to learn from someone first hand in person.

That is how I learned. My uncle and brother used to play the 2nd edition in the 80s but I was too young and it didn’t appeal to me. A few years ago I wanted to try the game so I bought a used copy from ebay and had my uncle come over. I have been hooked ever since.

Thanks for the welcome! I’ve been busy with work and haven’t taken pictures yet haha. I have however finished Germany and now working on America… Germany in my opinion looks 100 times better than Japan… I should’ve used the Russians as my starters since the vast majority of their pieces just sit in the box…

Yeah I too plan on buying AAP40 and AAE40… Painting all those will keep me busy for lord knows how long.

Well they didn’t offer to print it in matte so i don’t know if it was possible. But that would have been a better idea i quess…
