    @P@nther:

Thank you, Veqryn, for updating the WW2v3 maps to Version 1.5 today.
    What changes were made?

added option to have interceptors and escorts (same rules as global se).  defaults to off.  turn on “raids preceeded by air battles” to have it on.
also, added objectives panel text info (won’t be able to see it til next release)

I have discovered that somewhere along the lines, I have patched my computer to the point that Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0 is no longer supported and will not run on my machine.

Considering there is now a Java Runtime Environment 7.0.something maybe it’s time to allow TripleA to run on something that was coded a bit more recently?

I know this was not an issue as of last January, but, obviously, I don’t use it routinely preferring the simpleness and ease of use of battlemap.  However, if I patched something that screwed it up, and I only run Microsoft Patches (and the, not always all the optionals, like I don’t have Bing Desktop and never will) I know someone else is going to have this problem as well.

    Windows 7 64 bit
I have only the software that came with the HP machine and Microsoft software

    • TripleA, battlemap, and a few other games (WoW, STO, GW2, etc…not that I play those often either anymore.)

no idea what you are talking about cmdr jennifer,

TripleA requires “AT LEAST” Java 1.5 (also called Java 5)

I do not recommend using java 5, because java 5 does not support changing the look and feel.

Currently I am using Java 7 on my computer for the last 6 months.  Previous to that I was using Java 6.

TripleA runs just fine on both java 7 and java 6.

  • @Cmdr:

    Windows 7 64 bit

    TripleA Version 1.6.1.4

On my Windows 7 64bit system I have the latest Java 7 Update 21 (64bit) installed, running triplea 1.6.1.4 on it (having no other program that needs 32bit JRE).

I have never experienced any issues with (up-to-date) JRE on my older systems, either.

    read what we both wrote,

download any java greater than or equal to java 5, java 6, or java 7

make sure you download and install the 32bit version, OR both the 32bit and 64bit versions

and/or you can just use the triplea that includes java already in it

This is exactly what you need:

Nope, got both 32 and 64 bit versions still getting the error.

Removed the 64 bit version, reinstalled the 32 bit version over the old one, still erroring out.

Probably the upgrade to IE10, but I use IE way more than I ever used TripleA, so I need to figure out a way to keep IE and make TripleA work around it.

    Fixed it.

    For those interested:

Uninstall anything TripleA related - delete map files you have, hell just delete the directory if you save there which is what I did.  I used Revo Uninstaller just to be good and sure it was really uninstalled (some programs say they are, but still leave traces on the computer.)

Download again (cause I didn’t have the file, which is fine.)  Install again.

    Works now.

It must have gotten glitched at some point.  Probably with a security patch, but it coulda been the crud my kids downloaded into my computer a week ago too, (167 viruses, over 500 tracking cookies, it was a fun day! )

  • Just got around to trying out TripleA, and I am currently trying it against an AI.

    It’s awesome!  :-D

Looking forward to a game against an opponent once I get it figured out! :)

(Yes I will be going to the thread to do so.)

the AI is more of a novelty, or something to use on a first playthrough of a map

triplea is really meant to be played either online, or play-by-forum/email

i recognize you from gto.  glad to see we are not completely unknown to those guys.

That was my intent for the AI, mainly. Just to get a feel for the system. I may still use it on occasion just to see what crazy stuff the AI will let me get away with.

It’s nice to be recognized from another site.  :-) I think I may have seen you over there; I’m not sure.

Okay, so when you look at the history, the entire program stops working.  Where do you go to start it up again?  Or do you have to save it and open it again?

  • Customizer

To look at “HISTORY” click the “GAME” menu then click “SHOW HISTORY”

To stop looking at history, and see the “CURRENT GAME”, click the “GAME” menu, and then click “SHOW CURRENT GAME”

  • '18 '17 '16 '11 Moderator

But will that restart the AI?  Was trying something out, went to look at the history during the AI’s turn because I forgot what England collected, and couldn’t get the game to start again without first saving it, then opening it again.

  • Customizer

When you are in another player’s turn, including an AI’s turn, the history panel comes up automatically.
When their turn is over and it becomes your turn, it will switch to the current game automatically.
Being in either does not affect other people’s turns.

You said your kids have installed tons of viruses on your computer.  I think 99% of your computer problems are probably related to that.  If I was you I would reformat my computer and then install a virtual machine for the kids.  Any time they screw it up (or just once a month to be sure) you could reset the virtual machine to the day you installed it with a single click.

  • '18 '17 '16 '11 Moderator

Yea they have their own computers, and have for a month or so.

There doesn’t appear to be anything on this computer atm - malware wise, and the only issue I have is when I go to look at history in any game which seems to require me to save, and reopen the game to get things to move again.  Maybe the “automatically” isn’t working, is there a manual way to tell the game to continue?

  • Customizer

I think maybe you are not seeing something, or are confused in some way.

The game doesn’t stop unless it is a human person’s turn, OR human input is required (like for casualty selection, etc), OR the AI is thinking really really hard (big maps, or when the AI has too much money).

  • '18 '17 '16 '11 Moderator

Ah, could be too many troops, but it does seem to lock up after combat at times or whenever I pause it by going to history…but then, I did have to delete the program and all other versions and reinstall to get it to work in the first place.

I am currently playing a game of G40 with an opponent. Every time I try to open his map, I get a message telling me

“Your TripleA engine is OUT OF DATE. This save was made by a newer version of TripleA….This TripleA engine is version 1_6_1_4 and you are trying to open a savegame made with version 1_6_1_5”

I have searched for this version 5 and cannot seem to find it. I tried downloading the beta 1.7 and still get a similar message.

The game still loads and plays. It is just a conundrum…
