• I wrote this bill for the JSA mock Congress, I was wondering what you guyses thoughts and opinions are.

A bill to reform the arms industry

    Sponsored by__________________________________

The arms trade causes much damage to third world countries by taking money away from development programs and by encouraging violent conflict. Arms sold to countries with deplorable human rights records are used against civilian populations. In addition, the government to the tune of 7.8 billion a year subsidizes the arms industry. These subsidies cause little to no economic gain. Such abuses need to be curbed.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States, that:

Section 1: For this act, all nations, including their
governements, citizens, and any resident parties,
classified as developing by the State Department,
shall be considered Third World Nations, and any
government or party guilty of human rights abuses,
as defined by the State Department, shall be
    considered a Human Rights Abuser.

Section 2: For this act, weapon(s) shall be defined as any kind
of military vehicle, ship or aircraft, any kind of
artillery, any kind of area denial weapon, including
mines, any kind of rocket launcher, any kind of
munitions, and all kinds of small arms, including
revolvers and self-loading pistols, rifles and carbines,
assault rifles, submachine guns, light machine guns,
heavy machine guns, any kind of grenade or
grenade launcher, recoilless rifles, portable artillery
    and portable rocket launchers.

Section 3: The United States Government may not give
Weapon(s) to any Third World Nation, or any Human
    Rights Abuser.

Section 4: No U.S. produced weapon(s) may be sold to a Third World
Nation or a Human Rights Abuser.

Section 5: No U.S. company or U.S. Citizen may sell weapon(s)
to a Third World Nation or a Human Rights Abuser.

Section 6: The United States Government shall not subsidize
the arms trade by promoting arms company wares,
by issuing export credits to arms sales, or by issuing
government grants to help arms producers merge.

Section 7: Any persons found in violation of this act may be
fined up to $100,000 and sentenced to a maximum
of six months in prison. Any companies found in
violation of this act may be fined up to ten percent
of their gross profits for the preceding fiscal year.

  • I’d would vote Yay if the font size was smaller 🙂

  • Just a note, according to this act, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Pakistan, and Egypt would all be denied their yearly arms package. Not that I am complaining, I support that.

    I’d vote for it 🙂

  • Falk, yur wish is my command.

Yanny, one of the purposes of the bill is to stop shipments of weapons to human rights abusers like Egypt, China, and Israel.

  • Which makes me very happy 🙂

  • I’d would vote Yay if the font size was smaller

My, not all of us have as perfect vision as you.

Anyways, this is one resolution we can all support. 🙂
Though there is a big difference for a third-world country and someone who abuses human rights…

  • This is quite a lovefest

  • i’m for it too.

ha, i’m surprised you put Israel in the “rights abusers” camp.

  • Not exactly, there should be instances where the sale of arms to 3rd world countries should be allowed under dire circumstances.

  • @yourbuttocks:

    This is quite a lovefest

    group-hug?

  • I voted “Yay”, but i am still hoping to overthrow a military regime in a country to set up my own, and having US arms backing subsequent to that would be really handy.
I think we could deal. After all, i intend to hold democratic elections as long as the citizens make the right choice (me).

  • What would happen if we wanted to sell weaponry to a group such as the Taliban resistance? Not allowed?

  • The Weapons would be “Lost” or “Stolen” or “Never Existant”.

  • Moses, give me an example.

  • Fanaticals under Adolf Hitler decides to invade Guatemala, which lacks proper weapons to defend itself. Guatemala seeks help from big brother in the North but can’t recieve any due to this act… :-?

  • hey TG Moses VI, do you have 2 names or something? theres also like TM Moses Vii

  • LOL, Moses’ proposal could happen, that is what I like about it. LOL

  • @TG:

    Nato/UN intervenes a la Kuwait . . . .

TM Moses VIII is TG Moses VI’s little sister. He’s very emotional when it comes to her and very protective. 😉

  • lol Moses, your example sucks.

First of all, if Hitler was going to invade Guatamalea, U.S. troops or the promise that we would fight him would do tens times as much as 1,000 machine guns or a dozen F-16s.

Second, Guatamalea would use any weapons we gave them on their own people. If they are going to cut down protestors, at least not let it be M-60s or M-16s.

  • hey TG Moses VI, do you have 2 names or something? theres also like TM Moses Vii

    Nah, that’s just baby sis…

First of all, if Hitler was going to invade Guatamalea, U.S. troops or the promise that we would fight him would do tens times as much as 1,000 machine guns or a dozen F-16s.

Yet how come there is civil strife across the world?

How are you sure of this???

    Nato/UN intervenes a la Kuwait . . . .

What about other conflicts around the world - in particular Africa?

  • @TG:

Yet how come there is civil strife across the world?

Maybe all those weapons we sell to the third world has something to so with it…

  • Maybe all those weapons we sell to the third world has something to so with it…

Ummm… I don’t see many insurgents equiping them as much with American weapons as I see foreign ones…

  • Moses, back to my point of we don’t need the blood money

If a government or a paramilitary force is going to massacre civilians, why does it have to be our weapons?

THird world countries take out huge loans and spend large percentages of their budgets on weapons. THeir economies become retarded, and their governments go bankrupt.

  • If a government or a paramilitary force is going to massacre civilians, why does it have to be our weapons?

    Whoever said anything about this?

THird world countries take out huge loans and spend large percentages of their budgets on weapons. THeir economies become retarded, and their governments go bankrupt.

Hence, “in case of an emergency…” :-?
