• In my opinion, liberty is nothing you get. Liberty is something you take without asking for persmission.

Without looking at a dictionary, i associate liberty with freedom. though we are nver truly free, i’m free to do what i am doing right now.

  • “What is liberty?”

Sitting down on the couch watching the World Cup Championship game on a Big Screen TV with a group of friends, volume turn on loud, chips & onion dip, beers, no problems, and no worries. That’s what liberty is.

    Freedom?

“People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid.”

Look at this! I invite you to my hangout and you come in tring to start trouble.

    Can’t trust those Sweedes!

  • Yeah, unlike honest little Finland. The only European country that paid back all their WWI loans!

  • In our society freedom is essentially money.

The more money you have, the more possibilities you have.
The less money you have, the less possibilities you have.

It is not that simple… but i think it is a good generalization of freedom. But freedom can take various form.

  • I think liberty is the pursuit of freedom. It’s not quite that simply though, it involves portions of justice as well. It’s probably even more complicated and vauge than that, but it’s merely a word; the idea is the important part and that people keep an inner sense of it.

  • Well put.

no, freedom is being homeless not caring if you are going to live or die and no responsibilities…I would rather be happy than free.

  • Money is as far from freedom you can get. "Bling bling money aint a thing*
Only if you’re a materialstic guy money is freedom. I would easily give up everything I have if the world became totalty free and liberated. Without any goeverments controling everything we say or do. I don’t think I would doubt giving my life for it, because then my family and friends would get a better life. I belive this is called communism, but mankind aren’t ready that responsiblity yet. If we could live in a world were you could anything as long as you don’t hurt anything living things would be great.
But thanks to several things as massmedia and politcians we can’t.

Btw, I’m half finnish and half swedish.

  • Ha, got any blood from Norway in you? That’s sort of where I’m from.

PS: You Swedes got nice houses

  • you’re from everywhere moses!

still, too many fools would rather be free than happy. how is it up to question.

  • I would someday like to travel everywhere too, Sir Horten. Although the only place my brother likes better than California is the South, where he can dress up and reenact Civil War Battles.

PS: Liberty is being able talk to such nice people online without being booted by your brother.

  • Madam Moses,

Why do you call everyone sir? You are much more polite than your brother (is he in college?)

Yep, us Westerns gotta stick together and prepare for the 2nd War of Succession. Oh yeah, and if it were my way, liberty would be if you wouldn’t be on this computer at all! Freedom of thought, not freedom of speech! :P

disagreed. was he socially relevent? Maybe. Brilliant, possibly. Entertaining, definitely. A hack, hardly.

i, on the other hand, am quite “hackish” this beautiful sunny day.

  • Being an ex-sailor, it’s limited time off from the ship. It’s a priviledge that can be taken away due to improper behavior. It’s like working during the day, going home, coming back to work the next day. Your off time is liberty. In contrast is “leave”, which is several days to weeks or a month away from the ship…

  • “disagreed. was he socially relevent? Maybe. Brilliant, possibly. Entertaining, definitely. A hack, hardly.”

Shaw was an interesting character. I like how Shaw and Marx held different views on the socialism, revolution, and the Fabian Society

  • Liberty is Certain Freedoms that the state allows u to have.

Freedom is a choice given to u by a law.

    and How about them mets?
