My grandfather took an Iron Cross as a war prize but lost it at the VFW club. Man I wish I had that medal. I do have a few other medals he captured, a coastal gun badge, a SS skull and cross bones, a wound badge, some SS labor badge and a german army dagger.

I’ve been around for years. Not just on this site, but others as well, just like anyone, I’m sure.
However, this is one of the worst for trying to get a solid argument, actual facts with some sort of citation, reliable sources, or just plain not moving the goalposts out of many people. And those people, by and far, have had a pretty conservative swing. There’s nothing wrong with that end of the political spectrum, but I hope there is a better defense of it than I see here.
I’m in the minority, I realize that. I’ve tried doing civil discussions with some success but more failure than not. I probably assume it’s already blown in the first place and jump right into the flawed methods I was originally arguing against.
But know this: Vance demonstrated exactly what I think is wrong with America. Unchecked dis/malinformation and the propagation thereof.
It clouds true discussion and can be dispelled so easily, ESPECIALLY considering the discussion is being done on the internet that provides myriad resources and already-existing discussions. But it doesn’t. And when you hear the same hackneyed, ignorant, and outright abusive comments and “arguments” pushed forth by a sham of a news organization and fringe groups, you get pretty damn tired of it.
Granted, all news sources are biased (we’re only human), some actually go to lengths to keep some integrity, not dispose of it to push some agenda and then lie to you saying they aren’t.
It’s a real shame that a comedy/entertainment show (or shows) I watch here and there are far more informed (requiring me to be informed as well) and honest than those that are self-reportedly equitable and equanimous.
This is something I’m actually serious about and am not too soft to pull punches. And call me a jerk all you want: I’m not going to flinch when I think ridiculous ideologies and those that espouse them are harmful and will call them out on it. Someone has to.
Besides, I’m a grown man, and if I can’t handle a simple insult that I’ve heard a million times before, then I should be nowhere in public or on the internet.

Maybe we aren’t too soft, maybe we’re to callous and uncaring.
This happened in my home state today, about 15mins up the road from where I live. In fact I drive past it everyday on my way to work. In the summer they have a day camp for the kids and if I was running late I would get stuck at a crosswalk while 20 children, no more then 5 or 6 years old, would cross the road all holding hands to go to the lake for a swim with a few camp workers watching over them. I can’t help but think that some of the children I saw in that group were some of those slain today. I remember one of two of the braver students turning to wave at the cars waiting to go, I would always smile and wave back. This just breaks my heart too much.

I heard it as I was finishing at work. It sadenned both my wife and me.
Our daughter is going to school in September and we walk by her prospective school and she stands in awe and watches the children play.
Something like this shooting wrenches you deep down.
Is senseless and heartbreaking. -
It was a terrible event. The sad thing is nothing will change after this event. People will use this event for their cause, and the other side will also use this event for their cause. The same arguments will be re-hashed. Sadly, in a few years from now, there will be no new laws that might help reduce events like this if that is even possible.

Good. I am glad we agree then. And I am also pleased to see that you took my comment in the spirit it was meant. Stick to your principles and I will stick to mine; can’t ask much more than that. But in any case, you did not seem to be very respectful of whatever his opinion was. My point was criticism of your delivery, not your message.

I think that is very much the point of this entire thread, and hopefully we have just illustrated a ‘proper’ reaction to criticism, failure, embarrassment, or whatever the negative catalyst may be.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man’s name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem."

You can’t stop these events even with careful planning. They just happen.Some accidents can be prevented, others not. Most of them not.

I understand that you have a diffrent view point of some issues in this world but it is not an excuse to compare this shooting on a Elementary School with Traffic Fatalities.If we think this is just happening every once in a while then we err.
In the past 2-3 month, Families in Europe were just plain wiped out because one parent decided it is better to be dead.
Dad called Mom or Mom called Dad to inform the Partner that they take the kids to a better place,  killed the kids and then them selfs.If you don´t have Kids then I do understand that your view may differ, but I beg you to release your grip in commenting in your usual provoking way!
