    Why?

    I guess Anti-Sub might keep them around, but otherwise…

    DD’s are the true troopers in ur navy, and should be protected as best as u can.
    1. they are the best ASW unit available
    2. A DD swarm is straight up nasty
    3. DD’s shoot torps and alot of them when attacking in groups
    4. Most players only go after the dd’s if they absolutly have too or have nothing else to do
    5. BB’s main Batteries can’t hit them except on 6’s
    6. extended range is useless on them
    7. give em a decent escort and they do have some good survivablity
    8. DD’s have some great abilities- Smoke screen, chase the salvos and Sub Hunter to name just a few

    I played in a tournament- non historical using a Italian DD Swarm with one Gorizia  cruiser and no air at all. I fought 4 Musashi’s and 4 Zero’s and won easily


  • I guess that could work but you’d need a lot of DD’s…

    And I’d target them (not as the first target, but still) for the reasons you say they’re good.

    1 auxiliary
    2 subs
    5 cruisers
    5 destroyers
    4 aircraft

    Axis:
    3 Battleships (1 normal, 1 super, 1 Italian pre war ship)
    2 subs
    2 cruisers
    5 Destroyers
    6 Aircraft

    I know I have more, but its that dumb old super battleship I cant sink. :x

    well without knowing what exact units u are using, i would drop 3-4 of your cruisers, use points for more subs and fighters.

    Don’t use the Auxilaries unless in a convoy scenario, they are mostly worthless for naval combat. exception to this rule is the Nordmark, actually a very useful Aux. (set 1)

    Also knowing that he doesn’t have a carrier ahead of time is a huge advantage if exploited correctly.

    Auxiliaries can be good anti-Heavy Shore Batteries. Considering I have a Shore Battery and no auxiliaries, though…


  • Aren’t cruisers really good vs destroyers? I’d just play 4 cruisers and kill everyone of your destroyers…

    they could be, but most cruiser do not have torp defense, so they only need to be hit 1 time with a torp and a DD’s gunnery can cause the other wound, a true dd swarm would probably crush a handful of cruisers


  • I need help on beating my friend. We play a 250 point game. He has the intrepid and an escort carrier. I don’t have a carrier and only have 1 battleship. He has 2. How do I beat him?

    So HMS PoW is fighting US Intrepid, cool, Bring subs and Land based fighters, use fighters to protect ur BB and corner him with the subs


  • How do I use my subs when he has 3 asw threats, as well as bombers. He has the intrepid and an escort destroyer. He has 5 planes that can battle everyturn. So should I have only air and a BB subs and a couple destroyers and maybe 1 cruiser?

    Guess Not, Its called Angels 20 and is a air combat only game that is from the same makers as war at sea.


  • Are you playing the standard rules with Objectives? if your not then air is by far the best and all he has to do is run away with his carrier while his bombers pound you. Hence why there is objectives.

    With objectives it makes it easier for you to grab them since if your BB gets close to his carrier the vital is low enough that he is at serious risk.


  • The problem I am having is he has 2 BB’s and 2 carriers. 1 of his BB’s has 1 time range 6 with 11 dice. Both have range 4. He also plays another cruiser, montpieller, with range 4.


  • Gneisenau the one with 6 range has weak vital armour and guns and will more then likely get vitalled either by another BB or by some USN air power if you have helldivers or dauntlesses.

    Cruisers like montepelier can rarely stand up against BB’s but if its range 4 bothers you hit it once so it loses it.

    What units do you have?
    Since from the sounds of it both your collections are small if you have subs and he doesnt have good ASW units you can really do a number on him.


  • Ya our collection is small. 33 ships and planes for each of us. 5 boosters and the starter, though we are both getting 2 more boosters today. Hopefully I’ll get something good :).
