    a bag of the game pieces…… :?

Who the hell gave me  -1 karma lol ??? what did i do …

Better get used to the -karma. Everytime I log on I have 3 or 4 more. I think that there is someone who’s sole purpose for logging into this forum is to dish out -karma. Some people never grow up, or who knows maybe it is some kid. It’s definitely childish behavior. I’ll give you a +1 to make you feel better.

I have the game.  I’ve played it several times and just the map was worth the cost.  the pieces are the same or close enough.  Adlertag is a smartass in case it isn’t clear…

  • Yeah, well I’m kind of a smart ass too. I thought the pieces were close in size but I haven’t had a chance to compare them lately.

I had a copy of this game as well.  Has since been sold - not what I wanted.

As has already been stated, all countries have teh same German pieces.

The ships certainly be used in Axis & Allies.  There was the Bismarck for a BB, Graf Zepplin for a CV, and the late late war type XXIII (is that the right designation?  Can’t remember).  I just prefer the waterline approach of Hasbro’s ships.

The planes are double the size at least.  The fighter was a Me262.

2 types of infantry:  regular and Waffen SS.  They are a bit taller than Hasbro’s.

The artillery is about the same size - it is the rocket artillery used later in the war.

2 tanks:  a regular tank that is a Tiger, and a heavy tank that is a Maus.

Their choice of pieces I really thought was odd to represent what they wanted, like teh fighter, sub, artillery and heavy tank.  Especially when it came to the Maus for a heavy tank.  The Germans only built 2 prototypes, and it was a complete failure.

The pieces are really nice, though.  I kept 2 Tigers to use as heavy tanks for myself.  I also kept 2 Russian Tigers and carved Josef Stalins out of them.  Turned out well.

    Cheers

Let me point out that even though I didn’t care for the  game, customer service from Pegasus games was excellent.  I had a badly crinkled map, and though the store Ai bought it from would do nothing for me, Pegasus shipped me out a new map the same day I talked to them.

  • How is the game itself?

I played agan this past weekend, the scale is off on the planes, and the Armor is bigger too, the Maus is huge.

There are also multiple types of units, there are ME 262, as well as FW 190s and Bf 109s.  The Sub is a type XXI and I’m not fond of that piece, but it comes in handy.

The artillery are 88s as well as the nebelwerfers.  There are also two infantry poses, one with the KAR 98 and one with an MP40.

In general the pieces are ok, not as good quality as the hasbro games, but the map, as I’ve said before is awesome.  There are some rules I don’t care for, but rules can be changed or modified.

I didn’t really think it offered much beyond Avalonhill’s games.  And I thought that the map was needlessly big.  Unless you have a banquet table to play on, you’re using the floor.  The design of the map I didn’t care for, but that is just taste.  I ended up selling mine after just playing a couple of games.

If you are getting it for the pieces, you can buy them separately.  Just remember that the pieces are all German sculpts that are shared by all nations.

Ok I’ll chime in - I played last week and it was very enjoyable.  The economy is different - each country has a slightly different cost for units.  There are two sizes of factories, large and small.  Battleships need to be repaired at a factory when damaged.  Infantry can be built right in a terriotry according to it’s IPC cost - that was a fun new mechanic.  Ships move 3.  Bombers use two dice when they attack hitting on 8s.  The game uses d12s.  The defender can retreat!  It all makes for a new enough game that it’s not like A&A.

Overall I foun it fun - and it had enough different that it make the game new and interesting.  My gaming group will be playing again next week.

  • I am considering buying the pieces only to add to my exspansive collection of plastic miniatures. How well do the ships sit on the gameboard?

When I get a chance I will pull it out of storage and check.

The submarines have bodies that are a bit narrow, so they can sometimes tip over, but the other pieces are stable.
