you meant sz7 not 17 right? but still same thing applies: if there’s a dd it blocks loading from that sz… it’s the reason why i sent my dd to 65, to prevent you loading those units from new zealand. but 18 is not blocked as there are no surface ships there (and subs do not prevent loading during cm)

Didn’t scramble, as there was no point. I play tested it and regardless of whether the sub and/or cruiser hit the planes never get to roll. Without a destroyer planes can’t hit subs. Useful to know.

To be fair, it was more luck than judgement. I forgot to move the Italians to Alexandria on I1 to be reinforced by the luftwaffe on G2. The whole move got delayed a turn, which meant the fighters and bombers were all in position for an escorted bombing raid.
