Before i proceed with my turn, i want to make sure everybody agree that this move is valid.
I moved my fighter to attack the 2 transports in sz20. they can safely land on my carrier. The thing is that the carrier has to travel through sz 6 which is stacked by the japanese. So without attacking sz 6 this move would not be possible, since i would then deliberatly send my fighter on a suicide mission. If i attack sz 6 with just 1 sub then the move is valid. even though i know the sub will not win the battle.

@Basile_01 @Robert - just to clearify, if you’re in doubt… It’s all based on the Aircraft Carrier moving to sz20 in the Non-Combat fase. This is - according to the OOB rulebook - a legal move, as long as the US are attempting to remove any obstacles, during the Combat fase. It’s one of the weirder ones, because we all know that the 1 Sub won’t win the battle in sz6, but it’s legal, nevertheless.

@Makalakalane / @Maxiheimer : Your explanation is fine ; I asked a similar question a couple weeks ago. My understanding is that there has to be a legal area where you can land your plane in theory when declaring your attacks. When the battles and non-combat moves are done, some of the landing zones may be unavailable(Carrier destroyed or damaged, carriers not moved).
In the case of launching an attack that has 0 % chance of succeeding, the landing area remains there in theory. It’s just that everyone know that there is no chance of success and the plane is doomed. The move is legal
