Discussions about homemade custom dice

This is a master topic to discuss different ideas on making your own custom dice.

(This is a fork from another conversation that went a little off topic).

  • I customized my own set of dice:

Red dice have one point on one side.

Yellow dice have two points each on two sides.

Green dice have three points each on three sides.

Blues dice have four points each on four sides.

=> Maximum effectiveness, but a bit of work  :-D

I wish you had five colors instead of four.

  • Why would I need a fifth colour?

Why would I need a fifth colour?

The technology of Jet Engines add 1 to the defense of that country’s fighters, giving them a defense of 5…

Not that you can’t just throw the 1 hit dice and reverse the odds - 5 blank sides are hits, the 1 hit side is a miss…

    Not in Global40  :-D

Last I checked, Global '40 wasn’t the only game in town. It wasn’t even the only game with Axis & Allies appended to the title. Your point?

  • My point is that my group plays G40.
We just need 4 different types of dice.
Which I tooled by myself just for us and our needs.
There’s no thought of doing these for anyone else.

If anyone wants to do these, he is free to create five types of dice.
Coming up with five different colours shouldn’t be too difficult.
    :-)

Good idea TJoeK - that makes since and a lot more cost effective.Â

I learned this trick when I was invited to play in a different group where they used regular but different colors dice. They would throw them all and depending the color you had to look for the right number of pips.

Not as quick as real hit dice, but it does the job.

I might know which group  :-D

So I created an inexpensive way to get my battle dice.  I purchased a container of 500 “counting cubes” from Amazon that has 50 of each color, ten different colors.  I marked my cubes as ones, two, threes and fours.  These cubes are not perfectly balanced or shaped, so if your group is fanatical about that kind of thing this isn’t for you - stick to casino dice or whatever.  But I’m satisfied that with the use of dice towers our results will be suitably random.

All this for just $17 US.

  • That seems like an awesome way to do it cheap. Nice work

  • You kidding look at the size of those cubes and look at the quality…Horrible.

If you do this at all do it with quality

  • Notice in indentations on all surfaces… not quality

Yep, and many aren’t even perfectly square. The colors are uneven. There is flash on some of the edges.  My use of the sharpie to color in the pips on the cubes was rather amateurish. But like I said, it works for our group.

If you were ever to stop by my house for a game, I still have 100+ dice to choose from for your rolls.  This was simply an exercise to demonstrate possibilities other than 75 cents per die.

Oh, and our group prefers the 10mm dice over the larger 16mm sizes, particularly with our dice towers.

  • What about general dice?

You have an overall commander which is measured in points or quantity of dice you roll

Each dice has a picture of either Armour, Artillery, Infantry, etc if whatever icon shows, that unit in that one battle gets +1

So you roll 4 dice and get: tank, tank, fighter, and blank. if you have 2 tanks they get +1 each, if you have fighter then one gets +1 if you got just infantry well thats the fortune of war and you get no bonus that turn.

Fortune of War Dice Set call it

You could have naval dice too

ranks 1-6 green for land, blue for naval

    yes yes??

  • I could help with financing?

Dice would have either land or naval with a separate category of Air because that branch overlaps both

Symbols for land: ( green) 6 dice in set
    Infantry x 1
    Armour x1
    Mech x1
    Artillery x2
    Blank x1

Symbols for Naval: ( blue) 6 dice in set

    Battleship x1
    Cruiser x1
    Destroyer x1
    Submarine x2
    Blank x1

Symbols for Air: (white) 6 dice in set

    Fighter x2
    Fighter-Bomber x2
    Strategic Bomber x 2
