    @Desert_Admiral:

I was luck enough to play in YG’s Invitational and all I can say is WOW!!!  It was so great seeing so many hard core A&A enthusiasts in one spot along with Larry Harris.  Huge kudos to YG!  Cheers!

Thanks DA, Thanks so much for coming such a long way, and thank you for your financial support this summer… good luck with your Vegas event.

  • Can I ask how you choose who is a hobbyist amd who is an enthusiast, please?
    Is it a personal choice?
I watched the Gold Medal vid, that General HandGrenade posted. Was eeally good  to see so many forum members.

YG put them into the categories that they requested to be in. There was no way that he could judge what the skills were of the incoming players since he had never played with most of them.

One of the things that everyone there seemed to agree on by the end of the tournament was that we were all better players now than before the tournament began. We weren’t just playing our own games, we were playing alongside 9 other tables who we all had the chance to check out from time to time. The lower your skill level was at the beginning the more you were able to learn as the tournament progressed. I learned an awful lot in the game that we lost 7-0 in the finals. There were some subtle moves that my partner and I were exposed to that will take us to the next level as we take that knowledge home with us and refine our skills. Others who were less experienced than us thanked us for teaching them to become better players as well.

All in all it was a fantastic job by YG and his team for organizing a world class event. They thought of everything and helped us all along the way with accommodations and travel. I didn’t record any video of the Tuesday game at Iron Stitches house using my house rules because we were all exhausted from the competition and just wanted a relaxing day where we could laugh, scarf down some pizza, and roll some dice among friends without the rest of the world tuning in for game reports. I will definitely be back for the next tournament.

  • Thank you very much for such a detailed response to my question.
I am very jealous of all of you and so happy it all worked out so perfectly.

I’d like to extend a HUGE thanks to YG and his team for putting together such an amazing event.  It was fun and well run.  On top of that, I had the honor of meeting Larry Harris.  He was engaging and gracious with everyone I saw him speak with.  Ran into him for dinner Saturday night too!

This event was everything I hoped that it would be.  I got to see some great players play the game.  I met many new fellow gamers.  And I was able to learn so much.  I was hoping to pick up  some ways of enhancing my game play.  What I received was overwhelming.  It was hard to gather in all the information that was available.  I look forward to the next one in 2019!!!

In the meantime, I will keep working on my game play and see if I can round up the time and funds to go to the event in Vegas!

Cheers and many thanks again, YG!!!

Thank you so much everyone for your positive comments, I’m taking some time off now… but I will be in and out to respond when I can, just wanna say that although the United States was well represented, all 4 Gold medals were awarded to Canadians.

    WAY TO GO CANADA!!!

I really appreciate that BOI, and thank you for your financial support.

  • Hobbyist and enthusiast should be combined into two divisions where the top two teams play n the finals. Eventually as more people participate, you add more divisions.

The reason is that their is no ranking system in place and people who might place themselves into the Hobbyist class might actually be top players, but we would never know unless they had to participate with better players.

One of these days I will make it to an event.

Our team is now targeting October 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th 2019 at a larger Legion hall on the same street.

How do we know how good anybody is if they don’t tell us, and than play to prove it?

  • I am very jealous YG and only wish we could find so many A&A players here in the UK. My hope is that gradually we will build our small A&A community here.

You are clearly doing great work over there. Marvellous!  :-)

I think the “self declared” divisions worked out well in the end.

There is a distinct difference between the scoring in Hobbyist and Enthusiast, outliers aside.

    I welcome anyone from the hobbyists to challenge the enthusiasts if they felt they were misrepresented;

Just putting that on my calendar and notice its not a weekend - is that on purpose?

Yes… Monday would be a travel and setup day, 3 days of guaranteed games, Friday for the medal round games, and the whole weekend to get home and go to work the next week. I’m anticipating and preparing for more tables and more divisions.

That sounds awesome YG.  It’s like the A&A olympics!

  • Thank you Grasshopper, thank you Larry Harris
EPIC doesnt even describe this event, in fact that would be the understatement of the year.
No bid I think its very even and no its not broken
If you get up against a good opponent they might beat you 9-0, if you can score and keep it close it can be any ones game, if my S.L. had worked our game would have been different, instead of loosing 6-2 it may have been 5-3. I was glad we played first it made me focus more on our game. I knew that Desert Admiral and I had to put on our best game, and I had never sat at a table with him before so we worked on a plan and gave it our all. We new we were up against 2 of the best players ANYWHERE!
As A&A players we all want to think we have an"A" game so if you go and you have a “C” game, you’ll find out that what you thought was an A game is not and you become a better player and you end up handing it to your regular group real bad until they adapt to what you learned
Thank you to EVERYONE who participated you are my brothers and friends

    “Suprise Attack”

Do you know hard that is to spell it wrong all the time

  • I decided to use my free airline tickets to go to Italy, up until now I felt good about that decision. After seeing this Italy better be awesome if it’s going to beat Toronto

    No chance (lol).

  • How do we know how good anybody is if they don’t tell us, and than play to prove it?

Have them play together to prove it, just create divisions because the number of games to prove that are limited so you need to have a structure that allows for few games to be played with a winner overall.
