@marcus711 The hang up with that is that all hits must be accounted for. If you attack with 4 fighters against a defending stack of 6 infantry, you will (statistically) land 2 hits (3/6 x 4 = 2), killing 2 of the 6 infantry. And then the 6 infantry get their defending rolls (statistically) getting 2 hits as well (2/6 x 6 = 2), killing 2 fighters. You would trade 6 enemy IPCs (infantry cost x 2) for 20 of your IPCs (fighter cost of 10 IPCs x 2). I wouldn’t call that a good trade.

if germany took egypt then you can’t use the cruiser, i’d forget africa until operation torch can happen and “concentrate all defensive fire power” on India :D

Thanks…  I was a bit confused because it allow you to unload the units.  In a board game, it could be a bit confusing.  The rules really aren’t very clear about it.  I understand that you have to engage any enemy sea units in the area and I think the 1st or 2nd edition rules state something special about sea zones only occupied by enemy submarines.  And I think it’s a BB vs DST which could happen however 1/3 * 1/3 BB misses twice * 1/3 * 1/3 DST hits twice is 1/81.  I’m pretty sure I could manage to be on the wrong end of those dice!  ;)

I recall that the subject was discussed at length in that other thread you mentioned, but I don’t remember what the outcome of the discussion was.  My opinion at the time was that such a scenario was completely implausible from a historical point of view, but that the game map and the game’s overall area-based movement system created a situation in which it did look plausible.

Yeah. As i said, some other games require possession of the North German ports in order to be allowed to pass freely into and out of the Baltic; which seems more historically accurate. Guess I may try this as a houserule for AA Europe and Global '40. It of course does take away from the Allies’options…

It doesn’t exactly prevent amphibious into the Capital, but the balance on production might be interesting, in that it would allow more naval options for UK (or potentially G), and force the German player to defend across a broader front, as an offset to the increased production. Restricted at 6 on central Europe, I suspect German players would consider heavy hitter buys on the capital to cover against amphibious as well as to threaten counter attacks and gain the movement advantage on coverage of Western and Southern out of Eastern.

It’s helpful to have the rulebook handy to reference when questions pop up.  Even if you think you know the rule it’s better just to find it in the rulebook and show your friend so that you build trust.  After a couple times of being right he will just take your word without question.

They can retreat one SZ (from which one of them  came) with the cargo still on board if they were not hit by the defending naval units in the last combat round.
(All hits are allocated to units, transports last. )
